Last phone I owned from Sony was Z3 compact. Gradually the company stopped introducing new phones at competitive prices in India. Last phone available in India was XZ2 @72000 INR which roughly means $1000+ after duties and taxes.

Notched phones sell much better than phones with ugly bezels, and Sony did not understand this.”

Actually, I mean their "tallest display than any other and ever made" and add a big chin to it thing. Usual 19.5:9 is still okay to me but no need for any more.

Xperia 1 was only available to buy after Q2. Q1 and Q2 phones were not good...

At IFA this year, Sony will probably reveal 3 new flagship models. Xperia 1 or Xperia 2 (6.5") 5G, Regular smaller Xperia 2 (6.1", sucssesor to the XZ3) and Xperia 2 Compact (5.7", sucssesor to the XZ2 compact). And there's also Xperia 20 (6.0", sucssesor to the Xperia 10 line, or just a inbetween model like the Xperia XA2 Plus).

Sony, Its time to get out of the smartphone hardware game and focus your efforts on the great work you are doing in the camera lenses and optics for other smartphone manufacturers. Also the games console market that you currently lead with the PS4, will be entering the next stage of competition with all of these streaming platforms coming to take on the Playstation 5. You already have a big fanbase and good momentum going forwarding Im sure you would like the PS5 to lead and dominate the gaming industry again.

Its clear to most people that you cannot compete with the Chinese smartphone manufacturers and rather than fade into oblivion like BlackBerry, HTC, LG or struggle like Samsung, Apple, Motorola, I believe you should leave the smartphone hardware business behind.

To contradict my statement, I have to say that I would love for you to put out 2 Foldable smartphone models first before calling it quits. I just believe that you can come up with a really great foldable handset concept and I am a fan of the brand so I am biased and just want to see a great and unique piece of hardware come out from your R&D labs.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2019Doubt it's the z5 series to blame. Heard a lot of bad real ... moreAgreed. They should learn from chinese or simply just care more what kind of phones other companies do. But no, they do it their 'own way'. Obviously wrong for a long time. Taller displays are terrible that'll not help. I don't even know anybody who owns Sony phone any more here (EU). Sadly, Sony mobile division is Titanic. Maybe they'll keep selling few phones in Japan forever, though.

Well this happens when people thinks Sony sells quality.
Price is the only factor that matters price and then Quality.
Thus Xiaomi went in 10 years from complete unknown company into a 4th most selling phone brand. Soon skipping apple and in few years they skips samsung as well.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2019That's what happens when you listen to vocal blind fanboys ... moreYes, to me Sony, HTC and LG are almost dead.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2019Doubt it's the z5 series to blame. Heard a lot of bad real ... moreI had the Xperia Z3, it was a great phone in 2014, 2nd best in my opinion.
But since 2016, we got other brands offering a lot of interesting things, like Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus and Xiaomi, I don't think Sony can beat them by releasing a phone with a 4K OLED 21:9 display, and a bunch of gimmicks most people won't use, they need to rethink their strategy.

During the notch era, everyone on the internet was hating but it was actually selling really fast. A true definition of don't believe everything you see on the internet, and of course, the pricing.

I used to be a huge Sony fan and I used the Z2, however there are so many options now with more value for money. Personally, I still love the new Xperia phones but the pricing doesn't give any value at all omg. Currently using the Redmi K20 Pro, sorry Sony.

                                This is sad

That's what happens when you listen to vocal blind fanboys instead of having a complete understanding of the market.

The "notch hate", it's not a true hate, there are just some very vocal few on the Internet that shout this. Notched phones sell much better than phones with ugly bezels, and Sony did not understand this.

Also, the pricing...look how the high prices took HTC down, LG will probably be next. But no, Sony had to put insane price tags to their phones, like they were Apple phones.

So now, Sony gets what it deserves.

With that sales chart in mind, I'd like to point out that 2018 was the year Sony started making phones without a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2019Wow after the Xperia z5 everything went down o.ODoubt it's the z5 series to blame. Heard a lot of bad real life reviews of xperia z to xperia z3. People just said enough is enough. The tall displays didn't help them sell phones even more. Most people prefer that good old 16:9 aspect, not these new wacky one of +18:9 .

I got tired of waiting for the Xperia 1 and picked up another phone to hold me over for the Note 10.
It shouldn't take over 4 months to release a phone between Europe and the States.
I love Sony's phones, but they constantly shoot themselves in the foot one way or another.
