All a bunch of lies. It's not about safety but it's really about profit margins.
Everyone knows Apple is pretty much the biggest opponents to "Right to Repair" legislation. If Apple had their way, all their devices would be unrepairable or locked down that even the tiniest attempt to open them by third persons would brick their devices.
Why do you think Apple put the said "T2 Chip" on their newest Macs? It's not for security, which is their BS excuse. They're doing it to lock down devices and force users to come back to them for repairs, when in reality there are plenty of third party repairs that can do a better job fixing their devices for less.
Apple is losing in the hardware segment and trying to go to services including repairs in an attempt to salvage their profits by locking down their devices and forcing users to come back to them for repairs.
People should watch this Youtube video (watch?v=_XneTBhRPYk) and be enlightened, title is "Apple under fire for allegations of controversial business practices".

So in Europe you pay 69 euros that are $76,91 that are not the equal to the $69 in USA, you pay more for the battery replacement and for all.

I am an android user from the start and I haven't used any apple product till now, but I want to say that Apple is doing right thing by blocking the use of unauthorised parts. I know that all non branded replacement parts and batteries are just duplicate items and their lifetime is very short, if you have ever used non Samsung replacement battery on your phone then you can tell how fast it died on you and after that you had to use your depleted but original battery.
I had a Samsung galaxy s2 and I purchased 2 replacement batteries for it within a year and both batteries died in a month, those batteries couldn't even keep the required voltage to start phone, just forget about the battery capacity.
Few months ago I purchased Moto G2 battery from this seller goes by the name "Insight Solutions" on Amazon.in, but after couple of months it is almost dead, it has minimal capability and now I have to reinstall it's old original battery.
Li-ion batteries are not cheap to build so how can these non branded companies selling them so cheap. Every smartphone maker should use this feature to block the use of duplicate parts and batteries on their phones, but at the same time provide us genuine parts in time.

Apple fans cheered the moved, clueless that the $29 discounted price may be the actual price of the battery.

If it's safety related, they should just disable it outright if there's a battery change.
Louis' point is still valid that Apple is targeting 3rd party repair. It should at least know that a battery is from a newly bought genuine Iphone, but it still says service when you do that.
Apple isnt trying to break the trust in 3rd party repair, but to milk the users with their jacked up repairs and badly identified problems which weren't even a problem.
Making YOUR device like a subscription even though you own the device.

You pay, but in fact you DO NOT own the device, NOT THE INFO IN IT, talking about REALLY IMPORTANT things as CARS, which are far more prone to cause really BIG troubles at bigger scales, the car maker does not do something as forbiding the user from repairing the car, ultimately, they just invalidate the warranty
