Sony Xperia 5 is official as the compact variant of the Xperia 1

05 September 2019
The phone has a few differences from its bigger brother, most of them size-related.

Sort by:

18W is not whopping, when others are doing 40-50W and beyond.

3100 mAh is very sad.

And still anemic memory configurations.

Sony is practically begging to fail in the market.

Pabliell, 05 Sep 2019My reactions while reading news about Xperia 5: 6.1" FHD s... moreUnfortunately, they made a decision to remove the jack for the most immature reason a high class company they can say. "Because "everyone's" doing it."

The Japanese are known to not take risks which is why Gambling was illegal for a long time until 2018. If they do, they take a wrong risk like removing the jack out of peer pressure.

My reactions while reading news about Xperia 5:
6.1" FHD screen, no notch - yeah!
        Stereo speakers - yeah!
        Flagship specs - yeah!
        Good camera setup - yeah!
        No headphone jack - FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK!!!!11!

And yeah, headphone jack is important. I'm not paying that kind of money to play with dongles.

Sony calling this a compact phone is a betrayal of everyone who has ever loved compact phones. The last vendor who was willing to create phones under 140 mm tall has now soiled the bed too. I'm sitting here with a 3-year-old compact phone, craving an upgrade and unable to hold anything new and powerful comfortably. Ordered a Pixel 3 and it hurt my hand, had to return it.

Awesome phone! I've been waiting for exactly this one to finally change my Z5 Compact! Love everything about it, design is so stylish and has all the features from the 1. Can't wait for the preorder!

Looks pretty compact from this hands on video.

Im feeling confused by the number. They give 1, 10 for mid range, then 5.

                            Nokia 5.1, Nokia 5.2... etc.

Can we all agree that traditional 'Compact' phones are dead? For Sony Xperia, the Compact phones of the past are not coming back..

Sony has problems selling bigger phones, don't expect small phones (niche demand) to sell any better.

Whackcar, 05 Sep 2019Xperia's new naming scheme is all over the place. Xperia 1 ... moreOr next flagship successor will be called Xperia 1 mark ii, just like their camera. Because if they continued by numbers, last flagship Xperia will be 4 (as 5 already taken). Then new naming scheme emerge, which is ridiculous.

Looks like even Sony wasn't too interested in the Xperia 5. Used less than five minutes to announce it before quickly moving on to other products. Sad!

This "smart connectivity" is a basic feature in Android and has been for some time now. This phone looks okay but is actually kinda dumb when you think about it.

Xperia's new naming scheme is all over the place. Xperia 1 is flagship. Xperia 5 is compact. Xperia 10 is midranger. Xperia 2 is possibly a successor to Xperia 1. SMH!

Thats it. All the spec rumors were true. Newer Xperia, but downgrade version of Xperia 1. No enhancement per say. I could not brain what Sony strategy is to tackle market, for years already.

If this priced max at $800 bundled with those noise-cancelling earphones, it will sell. If not, Sony digging its own grave. As a Sony fan, sad to see this coming. No enjoyment had after the Xperia 5 release.
