Nokia 9 PureView's unique penta-camera gets low score from DxOMark

06 September 2019
It barely beats the Nokia 8 Sirocco in the overall score and actually got a lower video score. The PureView failed to top the 3-year old iPhone 7.

Nothing new. It was expected. A lot of reviews were already around showing bad low light images in general, really poor video quality, lack of versatility, etc. The software with few features and the Light cooperation doesn't seems to solve nothing. They even need the use of Light software to post-processing the images. And the hardware is slow to be used with this concept, at least the implementation and the Light chipset.

This is only another review confirming the bad results. It doesn't matter how much some people and fans try to talk about pro-photographers trying to fool people about this phone. The results and images are there to be watched. In real situations, the videos too. Not prepared images with a lot of post-processing to try to correct them with average results or the ones from a DSLR professional cameras used in their release presentation...

I am not a big DxOMark reader but it's pretty obvious they have extensive tests that are similar to GSMarena's photo comparison tool (measuring color accuracy, dynamic range, clarify and detail) which is far better than some reviewer going "Uhhhh I think this one is better cuz i say so". At least it's trying to standardized smartphone camera comparisons. Some tech YouTuber's subjective preference on brand, colors, and camera features is much less measurable, no matter how many followers/subscribers they have. That's just a fact.

While the Nokia 9's camera is by no means as bad as the DxOMark score makes it out to be, I still don't think the penta-camera system was the best idea on Nokia's part. Part of what made the 1020 so good was the fact that it had an absolutely massive sensor and was probably the first phone to use a form of pixel binning. Even by today's standards it has a very big sensor for a phone which is why it still holds up today. The problem with the Nokia 9 is that no matter how many sensors you have, whether it be RGB or B&W, you can't get around the fact that small sensors can't take in as much light

Dxomark is just a money paid puppy.... How come honour camera without Leica optics can beat zeiss preview.... I have used almost all famous smartphones and Nokia 8 which you grade below iphone 5s is really a lol the speed and stability of nokia 8 is better than many phones... Samsung A series is a crap which you graded at top... I think Dxomark people use these Chinese honour and Samsung's A series they dont know the quality....

I just can't with the comments. Frustrated people don't have any arguments or proves so they are writing stupid things. Dxomark should sue every poster who says they're allegedly paid by anyone.

Simple, DxoMark has a sidejob of pocketing all the money from manufacturers bribing them for good scores. Makers that don't - Nokia and Sony, case in point - get the middle one.

Just as expected. Just like Sony, the greatest hardware specs mean very little when the software is rubbish. Hence why Apple Huawei Samsung and Google are dominant

nokia 9 camera is not that bad, nokia likely refused to pay,

the only bad thing about the camera is the auto mode, but pro mode pictures are amazing

According to DxOMark, Pocophone F1 has a better camera than the Nokia 9 Pureview which is completely false. DxOMark's credibility has diminished.
Previously they gave Moto G5s and Galaxy J5 Prime more scores than Nokia 8. Nokia 8's camera was like twice maybe thrice the better than Moto G5s.

GSMArena writers & readers should not give attention to DxOMark.

As expected. It's not only DX0Mark, there was already a lot ir reviews with poor results. Bad low light photos, depresive video quality, etc. This test is only another confirmation of how bad is despite some viased fan reviews with Pro photograph excuses, etc. Typical words trying to hide the reality and fool people. Nothing new, even using Light external software.

DxOMark reviews are biased. You have to pay them to get a proper review and HMD didn't.

Since Dx0 changed protocol, same brands are getting low score. Brands that used to be among the best results. There is no way these phones are performing worse than previous generations.

                                        - They had Zenfone 6, but did not make rear cam test. Since it has bokeh and zoom results would be different.
                                        - They know few brands set 4K as default to increase video score, but ignore.
