The phone looks really nice. I am not sure what is the practical usage of the back and side surfaces, but it catches the eye. At this price point they won't sell even their sample units, but this could pave the road for such design devices when more durable and cheaper materials are available.
And people who pay 2500 euros for mobile phones don't throw them on the ground. At least I've never dropped my phones for more than 20 years of usage.

Xiaomi do seem to love Apple, just look at the new Huami watches emulating the Apple watches so maybe this is them attempting to enter that market segment...

Didn't expect Xiaomi to release an engineering concept piece of tech. This thing is art and is probably not meant for sale. A legit millionaire could burn $2.8K on a smartphone.
But honestly, I just don't think there's much use in having a wrap-around display. A second display does the same job just like the Nubia Z20 or vivo NEX DD but it's not worth the cost. Curved displays is a bit more useful...if companies actually took advantage of it such as putting notifications or music player at the side (that would be dope).

Im actually impressed but yes this phone is very fragile and I won't complain since its obvious that this phone is intend to make profits since most of their products doesn't produce such high profits.
But in the very end its just gimmick useless shit.

Why do you people think this phone is meant for everyone to buy? Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi are releasing these expensive products to showcase their potentials and abilities to make something that's innovative. If you're looking for a reasonably priced phone, the Mi 9T pro got you covered. Stop complaining about innovatiion and be happy these companies are putting in effort to come up with something new and exciting

Alpha is not meant to be sold in millions, China is only showing you who is a true leader of innovations. I bet you wanna own phone like this, I am not gonna buy it because of the price but ... omg, this is definitely most innovative phone in years.

Xia... moreThis is just a concept phone to showcase technology, it will be produced in very limited quantities as the manufacturing process is very difficult, it's not meant to become mainstream yet, probably next year or with its second generation when price will surely go down to a reasonable level. This just shows what the mix series was always set up for: innovation

Amazing Xiaomi.
Well just as the name suggest, this is an alpha product afterall. A sort of premium over the top phone, like Mate RS I guess only without car branding. I just hope it is a 5G phone for that price.

I hope Apple would follow suit. I think they need this design more than ever.

As we have already seen how the "waterfall" curved displays function (by disabling the curved parts of the display), the same method will probably be used by this wrap-around display. It should be ok.
But yes, the price is insane. Xiaomi is not a premium brand, and most of their customers know them for their excellent bang for the buck. The price of this phone is Apple-ish instead, and those people would never buy from a brand like this...

This phone mean to be SUPER LIMITED EDITION as Xiaomi already stated that it's going to be limited production runs NOT THE MASS PRODUCTION. So, even with that sky-high price tag, this thing will going to sale like hotcake.

The phone is exorbitantly prices for a smartphone. It probably needs a $1000 price reduction (Atleast).plus I am guessing this will be as fragile as a foldable phone.
Having said that, if Xiaomi and Samsung have worked things out well, this smartphone could easily resolve in the ballpark of 16-24MP ILCs. What they needed to work on was Optics, Computational Photography, multiple ISPs, and reworking the CFA (regardless of the Tetracell/Quad Bayer Pixels). It should compensate for both the small pixel size as well as the CFA (as opposed to a lack of a CFA). I hope it takes its times with post processing, upressing and downressing a few times for improves detail and colour noise. Plus hopefully it combines multiple exposure Tetracel and Multi-frame HDR, simultaneously yo produce extremely high dynamic range as well as detail.
