They can do this, it is fine. It is crucial that the end-user knows if their screen is genuine or not, because that could be the deciding factor as to how long the device can be used. But...
I don't like the fact that Apple still tells you that your phone is using a non-genuine part, even though it is one, but just from an unauthorized provider. It doesn't matter which provider you're getting it from. If it's a genuine one, it's a genuine one, and if it's a genuine one, it will keep the phone usable for years to come, regardless. Apple doesn't not need to pull this kind of design, it is not needed in any case whatsoever.
Now, I can already see the kind of strategy that Apple is doing. It's to trick users into thinking that they have a non-genuine screen, even if it is a genuine one(because it's not so easy to check the model number.), and so they will waste a potentially working screen, into wasting more money on Apple's "authorized providers", which will of course, mean more money. I may not be true about this, but this kind of marketing strategy is pretty disgusting, not to mention the fact that most Apple users are stuck in their eco-system, with no great way to migrate from Apple to Android. It's almost as if they're intentionally doing it, just so they could keep their iSheeps with them, and consistently grow up the community further and further, and gain even more profit in the process. I don't like Apple because of this. Removing the headphone jack was already bad enough. Making the notch was an even worse aspect. Now doing this kind of bullcrap is just unacceptable.
I am not saying that their products are bad by any means. They are incredible, and know what they're doing. But, their behavior is definitely not to my taste, for all of the reasons I have shown above. The cheapest of the IPhone 11 line doesn't even have 18w charging, instead it just stuck bad to that same old stupidly slow 5w charger. It is ridiculous.

A display is not a tear and wear component of a phone. It's supposed to last the lifetime of the device.
You have to realise that modern phones are way to complex and have way to tight tolerances. A third party display is NOT certified by apple and is of unknown quality. If it is just 1mm thicker it might press the battery and lead to hazard, also it's not only about the display itself. iPhone have a lot of screws of different sizes that have to go back exactly as before, failing to do so reduces the lifespan of the phone. Also you can't just cheap screens online to put on faulty phones and then take them to apple for trade-in. Finally authorized shops reseal the phone for water resistance as per apple.
I do think it's a nice feature! Good to know if you have a Frankestein's monster phone or have been scammed.

Its more like this: think of original parts as high quality BluRay release, and 3rd party parts is like DVD release. If I'm happy with DVD quality, why should I pay much more for BluRay? Original DVDs won't display a message that the copy is not genuine. Its just lower quality, but still genuine.
Apple just want to justify their monopoly.

There is no "slavery". When you buy a device it is yours, you are entitled to a quality repair anywhere you like as part of warranty. When out of warranty, you are entitled to repair it as you wish. In warranty you are entitled to change it in any way not covered by warranty, even if you loose or it modifies warranty, but only fairly and relevantly loose or modify warranty. You are entitled not to be harassed, coerced and controlled outside of fair and relevant warranty terms, that is part of slavery. Seizing one's data, privacy and time and efforts, for gain without expressly agreed terms, or actual relationship (employee, spouse, children, government etc), and only as far as relevant in those exceptions, as well as doing so with coercion, harassment or control, IS part of slavery. That is the moral law, that the law is supposed to back up. Anything against this in earthly terms, is Treason.
Jail terms and reparations, need to apply to substantive amounts of this activity, wherever little bits accumulated over masses of people, or substantial amounts individually, and this needs to apply more over the employees of an organisation, the more substantial over many people, or an individual, it is. Meaning, proportionally everybody responsible (involved).

Thats a nice feature, it helps detecting terrible liars 3rd party repair and their bad screens. I don't use apple stuffs, but my personal experience with screen repairs is bad, once my screen broke, took it to a 3rd part repair. He made me pay the price of original screen, but it was a terrible fake one.... Ever since, I only repair in authorised repair centers.

this like dual edge sword. in one side this help people who find genuine replacement and avoid recondition quality. in other side this feature reduce flexibility in repair the phone.

For those said ,it can be genuine display but the reparations made by unauthorised technician. Apple won’t sell their parts or components to unauthorised technicians or sellers. So be aware please plus you still can use non-genuine display if you want because that is just a warning. Oohh i forgot, all android fanboys love freedom even it’s not genuine like pirating songs, download movies in illegal ways and yahh get your phone repaired at unauthorised technicians

With Samsung authorised repairers, you agree a time slot they come out to your location & you can watch them carry out the repair, it takes less than 1hr to replace the screen & battery with resealed IP68.

This is likely aimed at creating two price points for used devices persuading owners to repair at apple or probably face a lower resale value for their devices.
This is typical apple, after you paid for the damned phone you should be left alone with it but no way, their insatiable greed shows at every turn.

And if you're certified, you don't have parts that are not genuine but cheaper.
So now you have a choice:
Choose unauthorized, pay less, but even if you'll get a genuine screen from another iPhone you'll be notified, that your screen is not genuine, because Apple didn't approve the replacement.
Or go to Apple certified shop, pay more, get genuine parts and no message.
Do you like those opinions? I certainly don't.

Apple simply want everyone to pay more and repair only by their authorized service providers.
