$500 for this literal garbage when you can almost get two Mi 9T's for the same price. Or 1 Mi 9T Pro for $150 less. Or 1 K20 Pro Premium for $50 less.

Renato Oliveira, 07 Oct 2019$500 for Snapdragon 630. No wonder Sony Mobile is going down.To make it worse, even their own Xperia 5 Plus cost way less and is way more powerful.

Also, there are a lot of OLD IP phones that are cheaper than that

Shadocx, 07 Oct 2019So the IP rating adds up 300$ to the worth of that thing? I... moreNo, it does not.

High price means it was developed in Japan, it has Bravia software for screen, it has 120Hz screen like all Xperia with 1080p or more, IP rating that still missing on most chinese phones, it has gorilla 6 on both side.

Whackcar, 07 Oct 2019When did humans become fish though? Since when did IP certi... moreThe water resistance standard was NEVER made for people to swim their certified phones with. It was rather a proper validation for the phone's capability to survive being submerged underwater or being splashed by it.
It ain't the most important feature of a phone, sure, but then why are people crying for the lack of it on many phones, especially the flagships?
It has been essential in many ways, and have been proven to work quite well.
In cases where your phone gets water damage within circumstances that the manufacturer claims the phone to supposedly survive, they would acknowledge the failure and fix your phone for free, as compared to having to pay another set of dollars for the damage due to the fragility of the product to certain accidents.

Another is, phones are simply not worth their prices at initial release. Many people have bought the iPhone 11 Pro Max for $1500 at launch, but what's the difference when people buy it 6 months later for around $800?
At the expense of some waiting time, a person got the same exact product that many others did for much less.
I'm not saying no one should buy phones right after they were released, but practically speaking, what's the major benefit of it?
It would be better to buy this phone for $300 or less than for the current $500. Simple as that.

Whackcar, 07 Oct 2019At $500 or less, you could still buy a Asus Zenfone 6 (2019... moreThis is a fair comparison which I agree with. Not the other one which was ridiculous.

If you are paying the same price, the Galaxy S9 Plus is a lot better than this crap overpriced Xperia 8. I chosse to the flagship of the previous year before this junk with cheap hardware.

Shadocx, 07 Oct 2019So the IP rating adds up 300$ to the worth of that thing? I... moreAlright fine. You don't need that water protection because you're so perfect that you never risk your phone near water.
SD632 is a minor update to the SD630, but that's as if the latter isn't powerful enough to handle most of the tasks that every average consumers would perform in real world.
Oh look, a tiny chin! Well I guess it's not worth $500 because your $200 phone has a smaller one, eh??

Like I've said, this phone will be under $300 in no time. What I would love to see is how far this phone will be supported in terms of software as compared to the Chinese phones you're comparing this to.
If this one defeats the Mate 30 Pro in terms of Android OS upgrade, then I'd consider this phone to be $300 worth it.

                    Dear Sony...Mobile

Certification like this would be useful but only a vocal minority has this problem.

I just don't use it when it got wet and submerge it in rice once I'm done outdoors. Since Sony innovated with the introduction of Ingress Protection on phones, they should be confident enough by not going through the IP rating and do it like OnePlus but then again, Japanese people like Sony are spineless as they can't take a risk. They're not risktakers overall.

I see no need to fret. it is an everyday, no fuss phone made for a specific com provider, y!mobile, and most likely will cost next to nothing for their customers.

Too bad it is exclusive for Japan.

I do not care about cpu. I'd rather have SD6xx but the rest enough to satisfy me than having SD8xx but without many stuff..

I has Power/FPS button, Gorilla 6, IP65/68, hi res audio , colours of Z3c, metal frame.

Since when did IP certification become the most important feature of a phone? I get it, water-resistance can come in handy at times, but it is hardly the most important feature of a phone, is it?

Don't get me wrong. At $300, the Xperia 8 would make a decent phone. I just don't like the fact that IP certifications have gotten so overrated over the last few years.
