Why not? Less the SoC, is old hardware with low RAM and few features. So $400 is a lot more that the hardware cost, a lot profitable for Apple. Like their refurbished phones....

The next decade's smartphone form factors will be returning to the clamshell design that dominated in the 2000s. The one-screen slab will become less common in five years. Displays will be protected by their outer shell, have two of them, and open up like a laptop or displays will fold in different directions. More people will want to have two screens or at least fold out for a bigger one.
I know and I can feel when a revolution is going to happen. I haven't felt this way since the original iPhone in 2007. Hard to believe it became Microsoft, a failure with their Windows Mobile and Windows Phone platforma, who will help ignite a new era. And Microsoft is known more as a software company. Not really a hardware company.
This SE 2 is just $400 nonsense. It's like trying to resell the RAZR V3 to us from 2007-2010 after we had just witnessed the iPhone. Microsoft using Android is a win in my eyes. Surface Duo could've been released 5 years ago. Better late than never. Let's not forget that the real Nokia is part of Microsoft now. That means GREAT RECEPTION.
I understand Microsoft not going all-in with Google back in the day since they also want to protect their desktop business. But now that they officially created their first Android smartphone after three years in development, they truly have a winner in their hands. Surface Duo is going to leave more of an impact in the mobile industry than the first Galaxy Note in 2011 did.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2019Why couldn't it have iPhone 11's design?I'm afraid that will half their iPhone 11 sales, so they will make less money ulimately. When people can get a 399 dollar with iPhone 11 design or a 699 dollar iPhone 11, they will go for the cheapest one obviously.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2019Wow, “only need to upgrade the core hardware” - as if the h... moreIt's expensive and difficult since the phone has to be thinner, with thinner bezels, more camera's, more sensors, so it all needs to be designed, R&D is involved etc. They don't do it for a cup of coffee only if you think that's the case. Yes, the package that contains all the core hardware doesn't come cheap. But if you have a design left that's been used for 6 years and can easily house some newer hardware (which is smaller nowadays as well) then it's easy to save a huge amount of money and cash when it sells like hot cakes. Apple is the only one that does such a thing.

Now more people aged 8 and over can flex the Apple logo on the cheap, kinda ironic. Even my 40 year old Business teacher sucks off Apple.

Wait for the Surface Pro. Wait for the PlayStation 5 if you love video games. Don't waste your money on this.
Personally, I don't need another smartphone. I plan to use my Pixel 3 & Essential Phone for the next FIVE YEARS (up to 2024). And if one of them gets lost, stolen, or broken, my LG G5 with a removable battery is there as a reserve. It can easily back up either two. It's working perfectly as we speak. I just don't know if Nougat will be bare minimum to download apps in five years?

The Surface Pro just offers something NEW. A form factor that I believe will be common for the next decade. Why waste another $400 for a chasis that's actually 5.5-year-old design when a "5.4 iPhone 12 could be the same size, have Face ID, gesture navigation, and likely 5G and USB-C? There's going to be alot of great tech going to be released next year.
Don't buy any of 11 trio or SE 2. Wait for the 12. Or if you really want to jump into the next gen of smartphone form factors, wait for the Surface Duo. Microsoft shocked us all with an Android smartphone. It's the gamechanger for the next decade of smartphones.

It's a meh deal in general terms , but a good one for those who would try or upgrade to IOS from iPhone 5s/6/6s/7. I'm mystified about it's release, but I expect 500 euro price in Europe + mediocre cameras and display. The design is okish. I still think the MI9T is way better.

For 400 you can really get a powerful flagship hardware from android side. Regarding brand status and all, people really will think this is a 2014 hardware. Are you gonna be happy with this? Only for the logo? Just get a refurbished iphone xs or x. Both of them are really powerful and have much better build, design and display.

Apple move is for not keep losing market share. It's the only company that full control of his products (software and hardware) it will win a lot with more clients. In fact if they decided to put theirs phones 50% off. They would win more than today...because of the services/after sales support/apps sold on apple store, etc. More clients more sells. Samsung, Huawei, etc. only win on hardware sales. Their prices of flagships are needed to compensate the RA department and loses on entry level phones. Apple don't need their prices to be that high. they just do...because people still buy them for what they ask.
