Otherwise the gamut would not be that low.
Also 10bit is more expensive.
Iphone screen costs less than $70.
While s10+ screen is $20 more.

          Xinito27, 23 Oct 2019iPhone does not use 10-bit screen uses a low-resolution Sam... moreI checked my Xperia 1 with a microscope and it's a diamond pentile oled panel, so unless Sony started to make diamond pentile, it's fair enough to think that's a samsung panel that equip the Sony Xperia 1.
          Also, it's a 8+2 bit panel. But I would have loved to have a 10bit support on mine, can't even watch series on Amazon prime because they are greyish. It works with youtube and VLC though.

                      patoka, 23 Oct 2019Well, in Sony's defense the xperia 1 has the best screen on... moreExactly. Among all OLED screens from many high end smartphones, Sony's are the least trouble-prone, and perhaps the absolute no-compromise panels ever since they debuted last year.
                      We've heard about Samsung and LG's color shift OLEDs, and green tint from BOE, but is there any major issue with Sony's OLED panels??
                      I can't recall. Would love to be enlightened though.

                              Well, in Sony's defense the xperia 1 has the best screen on an android phone I've seen in the past few years and I've seen most of them. Reviewers don't talk about this because they receive cherry-picked units but aside from the xperia 1 I haven't seen another OLED or AMOLED display that has been evenly lit and without any color tints for years. The quality is getting lower and lower - the bottom part being brighter, red tint in one corner, yellow tint at the bottom, green at the side bezzels, etc. you name it.

                              I get that LG and BOE have issues but Samsung has started slacking too probably due to the increased demand from Apple and a multitude of other manufacturers. My new ROG 2 phone is the same thing - I'm starting to think that the reintroduction of dark modes is precisely because of that, so they can hide the issues with the displays.

                              I'm tired of this freakin screen lottery on $1000+ phones, so I have to applaud Sony as at least the xperia 1 units I saw were all consistent.

                                        Who will pay that much ? Seriously Sony, you need to reconsider badly. See where HTC is now ... Sony Mobile will end up like them :/
