All this does is undermine the whole point of the simcard. TO be able to swap your account/identity across devices with ease.

We might as well go back to CDMA days of registering your phone with the carrier - thats how it's going to end up.

Totally pointless. The space saved is negligible and not needed.

If the goal is to replace a regular SIM card, why going with a SIM card-size tray to hold the nano instead of using that space for something else? Apple plans to win the battle by "... registering six different European subsidiaries as voting bodies, that can provide up to 45 votes each...(pay for votes)". Apparently, they will be considered 6 different entities with equal voting rights as independent companies yet they are all Apple. Good way to outmanuever rules to force others to pay for its design.

Andrea, 21 Mar 2012So, they are saving space to put a SIM tray inside the phon... moreExactly, thats called iSIMtray Nano, very brilliant idea.

They should work on making a better battery or some else.
sims card now is small enough, i dun take it out often. but i m sure some people (prepaid) always switch sim card might find it hard to handle. i dun need that extra 2mm^3, how many more stuff you can put in it anyways..

Nice try for Apple to try to gain full control of the market. Unfortunately, this will not end well. Sure, they have the backing of more European subsidies against Nokia. But how about Motorola, RIM (BlackBerry), and the other continents? Yeah, they may win Europe, but that is not the whole world.

Phones with 3'7 inch screens such as the iPhones, N9 and Lumias requires micro Sim so there's more internal room to fit everything in

Wow not even 1% world uses micro sim and now they want to shorten the thing down by 2-3mm, nothing signifact can be gained. Better hardware desgin and electronics can give more space.. the galaxy s2 packs more features, better hardware than the iphone4s and its lighter and smiller with a regular sized sim, sd card slot and removable battery.

it's the nature of apple to cut paste and say it's our invention.

WTF!? like the mini-sim wasnt enough. do we really need smaller sim card people? nah we dont. but what we do need is bigger batteries that can accomodate all that 1080p video and dual/quad core processing. worthy argument, but we got more important things to worry about.

Oh God no, please don't let Apple get their way over this - as soon as they did, they'd declare that everyone else was in violation of their patents and move to have all phones banned apart from theirs.

Where is poor Sammy. He has a buckle load of new upgraded mobiles from the spare parts department, which cannot be software upgraded, on the way to confuse poor unsuspecting buyers. Now surely he is going to want a say on who's who in the zoo given he is one of the biggest gorillas. One of my friends has the sole right to make SIM cards in one of the biggest mobile phone growth countries in the world. Standard SIM's are here to stay for decades, poor man.

A rectangle sim. looks good but its size seems too small for to get lost if not in the mobile phone.

Iphone's idea of tray is useless. A tiny piece of breakable plastic that itself consumes space.

Maybe idea of saving space by reducing the size of sim is itself stupid. They should research on the battery to reduce the size of battery with similar battery time and that will save them more space for there electronics.

The head phone slot consumes more space than sim. Come on man reduce size of something else.
