Flashback: Nokia N9 was ahead of everyone but went nowhere

08 December 2019
Nokia's Linux efforts faced internal and external pressure, but they did deliver this jewel - only for it to be quickly discontinued in favor of WP7.

Sort by:

The only reason why the N9 stagnated was due to the partnership with Microsoft that ended up putting Nokia in a bad spot, worse off in my opinion.
Meego OS was to be a full blow smart OS which would be easily
Adaptable to all things internet. Managed to see some demos and was a very promising OS, way ahead of its time.
Maemo on the n900 which I owned was undoubtedly the smartest and powerful system.

I honestly think that Symbian had so much potential and was more then capable.

Too bad it only had a mono core CPU and a tiny battery. Dual cores came the year after.

One of THE best phones I ever had, I loved everything about this phone, from the design to the UI

Nokia N9 was Nokia's last great phone. Homegrown by them. A great but bittersweet swan song...

CCE, 08 Dec 2019Don't bring up what is dead, stays dead! Nokia & iPhoneApple is still laughing away to the bank with their latest iPhone 11 while Nokia is like so low profile now.... iPhone is far from being dead so sorry to disappoint you.

I actually want this physical plastic design back because now the whole front glass part can be fitted with a whole screen leaving just the plastic bezel sides to be well... bezels. And if a top and chin is still required for the usual front cam + sensors + front firing speakers then so be it. I want none of these notches, holes or moles for a perfect view.

Put a 5000mAh battery in it, maximum repairability and on top of reusable/recycled plastic material we'd finally get back a saner priced flagship that does not rely on "fragile" materials touted as "premium" looking.

Back then, I installed the MeeGo on a week mini-notebook with an Intel Atom processor - running absolutely smoothly.

Nokia mobile was killed inside and outside by microsoft. A succesfull linux based nokia mobile OS would have made it impossible for microsoft to do anything on the mobile market where apple and a droid already were active. This in return could even destroy windows as a desktop when Nokia would then also go full in on a mature Linux desktop PC OS. Not acceptable for Microsoft. After killing Nokia mobile, windows mobile died later. Very strange. Anyway the 'not switching to android' story here is an ultra dumb way to analyse this mobile OS 9/11.

up until now ... Nokia attempts to bring out the best for customer are considered flaw for the big brothers, whatever they are, that has set the stage for world wide surveillance, in the name they call for their marketing ... world peace ... watch Tom Cruise Minority Report ... thats the core idea ... department of pre-crime

There has been problem with technology for all. Trolls like you can post worthless comments anywhere.

This is my dream phone wah back until now. Meego is just great, better than iOS in my opinion and suppose to trample Android way back then and has the potential for devs to look into. Bad tjing way back I disn't have enough money to buy this. I really like this phone.
