s-pen pusher, 10 Dec 2019exactly my thought. i am not tech savvy when it comes to th... moreThe value of 4 pixels is better than the single data point of only one large pixel in computational image processing. More data points means much more accurate data in terms of exposure, color, and whichever processing where more pixels were needed. Light capture is the one that people think about when they think of an image sensor, how about color, exposure and dynamic range/HDR?
The trend now is not about megapixels, it's how they use sensor real-estate by maximising its utilization in (best-case) all possible scenarios, may that be lowlight or daylight shots.

Anonymous, 10 Dec 2019There will be the exmor version of this.
Of course it will... moreFirst, I’m not saying that Xiaomi or the note 10 is better than Samsung ( especially mi note 10 comparing to a phone that haven’t come out).
I’m simply saying that if the SD865 are as great as video show about all the upgrades and thing that the chip can do, then a upgrade version of mi note 10 with the SD865 would be my choice for the price alone( cause it is cheaper, and the chip will be make up for the rest)
And considering that the mi note 10 with that 108mp sensor is doing pretty decent or great as many review videos show.
I don’t even care if s11 is better with a exclusive version of the 108MP sensor, or anything. It isn’t worth it especially if the phone is over 1k.
Cause if the SD865 can make up for the rest, then the mi note 10 + SD865 version would be a choice for the money ( at least for that is)
As for the Sony sensor, I pretty disappointed in Sony ( especially when I’m a Xperia phones user, I buy their phones for the camera, but I realized that they’re not really in the game.)

Shui8, 09 Dec 2019I bet the only difference is that it has DRAM onboard. That's exactly what I was thinking as well. S9/S10's sensors were basically IMX363 with stacked DRAM, and I'm expecting to see the same pattern this time.

Companies use pixel binning technology to have 200% more light sensitive. 108mp sensor will output at 27mp only with better image so don't be scared with the huge megapixel count.

So many comment box expert engineers know exactly the resolution this sensor would work best at. Definitely much better than people who likely spent the last few years developing it and hundreds of engineering hours figuring out exactly the size of each pixel and binning tech in order to deliver the best output considering this sensor's physical capabilities. If you were only able to tell them they should've just made each pixel bigger instead of wasting all that time!

If it is more expensive than what they already selling, then I’ll still choose Xiaomi cause if the next SD chip is as powerful as video show( mrwhoistheboss), then the SD 865 chip will make up for better processing as well as many other things alongside with the OS too.
So even if Xiaomi isn’t using the “new” Samsung sensor or that Samsung got a exclusive one. I’d rather choose a phone with a much reasonable price that also come with the high-end specs.

C'mon guys. Megapixel wars are back now because the sensors are huge enough to make full use of these Megapixels. Remember back then when there was >20MP? These sensors are as small as 1/3.x and 1/4.x. Of course megapixels don't matter because the sensors are small back then. Now that they're as big as Nokia 808, Megapixels matter now. Would you say the same thing that the satellites from Outer Space are using Gigapixels now?
