Most Youtube reviewers don't focus on details at all, and that's where Apple and Huawei have significant advantage over Samsung. Apple and Huawei take more conservative approach towards HDR and they try their best not to mess up local contrast or fine textures, unlike Samsung who uses aggressive exposure stacking and highlight compression to extract as much colour as possible from bright areas but destroys shadow details in the process. Also, according to Sony's research in the past, 50% of the smartphone photos are taken in low light. So being surpassed "only" in low light indicates that it's already losing half the time. I have both S10 and P30 and trust me - As much as I prefer shooting videos with my S10, I have to give the photography crown to P30.

The p40 pro is 8mp 10× optical zoom.
12(48)mp will have more details at 100× digital zoom when comparing both devices?
I'm no camera expert but I think Samsung s10 has better software than the p30 leading to better photos so it should be the same results here

I am curious about the stabilisation on zooms over 2x, and their HDR quality (since they may have lesser frames for HDR).

You know since week I went back to the Lumia 920 page because I was thinking back how it was classified as a very large phone back in the day especially in GSMArena's own review.
5 years ago I contemplated between getting the Lumia 920 and the Galaxy S2. Both in the same ball park in terms of specs but I ended up getting the S2. I really liked the Lumia 920 though.
When I look at phones like the S2 and 920 they seem like tiny phones based on how the market is these days when these gigantic phones. The S11+ is said to be too big by a popular YouTuber reviewer. The sizes are getting out of hand.

DMX, 20 Dec 2019All talking about sensors and photos and pixels and zoom an... morewell, that's mostly true; but when i do need to take a picture i want to be able to take the best possible picture from a smartphone camera. i do have a mirrorless camera for when i feel really creative on taking pictures, otherwise there are times when you just have to take a picture and you don't have a proper camera with you. the point with these improvements in camera on smartphones is not really to replace proper cameras as nothing can replace them, rather to allow you to take pictures that go as close as it can to those that proper cameras are capable of. i am not a professional photographer nor even have trained as one, but good pictures matter alot to me.

I just dont all the hype. Its a 108mpx camera sensor. The same in the xioami device which is a mid ranger. All with quad bayer processing and pixel binning its only 27mpx. Yes 5x optical zoom. So again nothing to write home about. What really annoys me the S10 was a 10th anniversary device. And yes it has a better camera than S9. But i would of expected a all singing and dancing camera in the S10. Yes i own this deive and are happy. But Samsung will put a better lens system in so should be good. We will have to wait and see.

And the ads are there to sell the products, not to explain how they work
So we'll always have the majority of people "fooled" by the OEMs' marketing,and all of those little details we are talking about doesn't really matter much to these people
