If the only novelty the Huawei P40 is going to bring is that 10x optic zoom camera, then I really hope they fail. Come on, 5x optic zoom was already controversial enough. what does someone need a 10x zoom on a phone for? They need to mainly focus on providing an alternative to Google services and slightly improve the quality provided with the P30. That alone would be enough to lure so many people that don't want Google.

Tech Expert, 20 Dec 2019Get your facts right dude! The sensor will be made by Sony ... moreLol everyone knows that a IMX series is sony made custom sensor and am just talking about sensor size and pixel layout i must say you lac knowledge and on the contrary you need to pass the 6th grade to understand a bigger sensor with less megapixel will output better shots than a massive megapixel but realatively small sensor

I love Samsung, but if the S11 does exactly 5x optical zoom, and maybe 50x digital zoom, it will not do more than the Huawei P30. It is not a ground breaking thing to add 5x optical zoom when Huawei and Oppo also have this. An 8x would be a punch in the face to Huawei, or 10x. :)

All talking about sensors and photos and pixels and zoom and bla bla bla and just take 1 or 2 photos in a month with their cameras lol there more important sections to improve on a phone than a simple camera if you want to take good photos buy a professional camera and ready a phone is just to be connected

the 20% area or so that's cropped helps in stabilization at far focal lengths, just like EIS in videography, the further you crop the better the stabilization, because let's face it, the OIS at 135 is basically unusable.
OEMs just need to better explain these stuff in conferences and ads to eliminate misunderstandings

10x , 5x , etc. don't mean much, if you don't know the field of view of the 1x camera and also don't know the megapixel count and also don't know the color filter. Often manufacturers just reveal the megapixel count of the sensor and don't use the entire sensor. For example Huawei's P30 Pro had a 125mm equivalent field of view with an 8 megapixel sensor. But in auto mode it was a 6.9 megapixel 135mm crop. By the way, 27x5.0=135 , so 5x zoom and 8 megapixels was wrong, it was 5x zoom and 6.9 effective megapixels.
Another example is the Pixel 4. Some reviewers say that it has a 16 megapixel 2x camera. No, the resolution of the sensor is 16 megapixels, but Google doesn't use the entire sensor at 2x. At 54mm = 2.0x27 only 10.5 megapixels are available.
The iPhone X has this issue as well. At 56mm = 2.0x28 only ≈10 megapixels are available as the second camera is a 51.5mm equivalent camera

Nick Tagataka, 20 Dec 2019Well, iPhone 11 Pro has a 26mm and 52mm "equivalent" lenses... moreYes, but usually an optical zoom setting doesn't change the megapixel count and also doesn't change the sensor size. A true 2.0x optical zoom setting has twice the focal length, this means that the sensor size is the same, which means that more light from distant objects can be captured in perfect light conditions.

And the new season of 108 mp also is becoming one the best in market... Remember Xiaomi's midrange device got highest rating with the old 108 mp sensor.. You talking like as you have tasted two cameras by your own.. Did you pass 6th the grade?

The ignorance & misinformation about cameras on the comments below is astonishing.

Although I am happy that Samsung went for that 5x periscope sensor after all, i cannot help but feel more impressed by Huawei for going with a 10x periscope sensor, specially one without pixel-binning.

2020 is gonna be a great year for cameraphone lovers all around.

Will these 12 MP photos be more detailed than the shitty 12 MP photos on the Note 10 Plus? When one zooms a single time it becomes blurry. I hate these 12 MP cameras..

Holy moly, once again a a topic full of childish haters.

Both Huawei and Samsung make good and bad phones and we the customers have something to choose from... We all should be happy instead of all this YAK YAK YAK, girly BS talk.

I tried lots of S series and Note phones from Sammy, nice phones. Then I tried many of Huawei Mate and Honor flagships to, love them to.

My personal opinion is, over time Huawei is still running smoothly, can't say the same about Sammy phones.
My Mate 20 X I have now, is running ever better now in performance and with battery power, since I got Android 10/EMUI 10. Never tried this with Sammy phones.

But again, with this 6,9 inch S11+, I had to get this I think, unless if another brand or Huawei/Honor makes a bigger phone then the 6,9 inch.

Calm down folks please, it's so childish all this hater talk and makes most of us in here very tired...

Since when 6.2 inches phone is considered compact ?!

I wonder if Huawei's 10x optical zoom is a properly legit 10x optical zoom or the same hybrid zoom as in current flagship Huaweis. Also, I bet Huawei's 16MP is a native Bayer sensor since Samsung would be using a Quad Bayer sensor.
