Something's wrong about the sensor in this article. A 52MP 1/1.3" sensor would translate to a 1.19μm pixel size (2.38 after 2x2 binning).

Nick Tagataka, 17 Jan 2020Tell me which sensor released between October and November ... moreThe custom sensors have a number. Like the p30 pro had IMX 600y.
Unless you know the exact number, sensor size can't be confirmed.
IMX 686, IMX 53X, IMX 54X all are between 1/1.5" to 1/1.7".
Upcoming ones like IMX 555 in s20 is 1/1.7".
Upcoming IMX ? in Xperia 0 is 1/1.5".

And back in 2017, Huawei was using 1/1.7" sensor while everyone else stuck with 1/2.55" ones. They use Sony's custom sensor so the size of other mobile phone sensors in the market is pretty much irrelevant.

Coz I see plenty launched it Oct-Nov 2019 which had 1/1.5" or 1/1.7" sensors.
Didn't see any 1/3" sensor.
Even the Xperia using 1/1.5" for its upcoming flagship.

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2020It's not a 1/1.3" sensor.
Most probably a 1/1.5" or 1/1.7.... moreLol what a wild speculation.
Knowing Huawei, they usually advancing their camera hardware setup. For sure they not gonna stick with 1/1.7” & most likely bigger than 1/1.5" in order to compete.

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2020It's not a 1/1.3" sensor. Most probably a 1/1.5" or 1/1.7.... moreThen let's see which one of us is right, usually when camera specs of phones are leaked info about the MP count and the sensor size come up with more certainty and then the pixel count is calculated based on those data. My bet is the leaker calculated the pixel pitch in a wrong way by treating the "inch" used for sensor size format as the actual unit inch, hence he/she got a smaller value than he/she should.

Anonymous, 15 Jan 2020No it won't be 2.3 effective pixel size for p40 pro since H... moreAnd did you even read all the comments I posted on this page before replying to me? I'm suggesting that the pixel size mentioned in this article is incorrect because 52MP sensor with 0.96µm pixels would be a lot smaller than 1/1.3". If S20U and P40P will have similarly sized sensor with similar native resolution (12MP vs 13MP after pixel binning) then the effective pixel size should be also roughly the same, hence I got 2.31µm through some simple calculations.

10mp pics achieved with 2.0 micron effective pixel size vs 13mp pics achieved with 1.92 micron effective pixel size.

Nick Tagataka, 15 Jan 2020If the rumour that P40 Pro will have a 1/1.3" sensor is tru... moreNo it won't be 2.3 effective pixel size for p40 pro since Huawei uses 4to1 pixel binning while Samsung does 9to1 pixel binning. The resolution is different and individual pixel size is also different inspite of similar sized sensor.
P40 pro with 4to1 pixel binning gives you effective pixel size of 1.92 micron since individual pixel size is 0.96 micron (0.96*2=1.92)
S20 ultra with 9to1 pixel binning gives you effective pixel size of 2.4 micron since individual pixel size is 0.8 micron (0.8*3=2.4)

"The sensor pixel size is 0.96µm, which means the 13 MP shots will have an effective pixel size of 1.92µm, which is definitely big."
Didn't all previous 40MP P and Mate phones have an effective pixel size of 2.0µm?
