i think you should combine option 2 and 3 . modify the current voting system and allow only logged in members from facebook or google etc to vote

Scrap everything. No more phone ratings. We'll just rely on your reviews, which are reliable anyway.

The second option will work the best, all these fan boys are going to have to create extra facebook profiles if they wish to vote for there fav phone

probably something like the second option, but don't limit it to Facebook, allow users to sign in with google and yahoo accounts and stuff like that.

some of us here _don't even have_ a FaceBook

                    Hei,

I believe that voting should be based on an account, either Facebook/Google/other. This might be a good way to filter the results. Also the number of votes a user can give per day should be limited.

pandemonium, 20 Apr 2012I've noticed this sad dilemma for quite some time, and bein... moreAlthough I still prefer my idea from earlier, I do agree with most of pandemonium's ideas.

However, in regards with the IP crosschecking, in my opinion it is better to only accept 1 vote from an account with same IP, rather than administrative action. We could never know about multiple members of a household having an account on GSMArena.

                        My idea from earlier:
In my opinion it will be best with a combination of these(In accordance to reliability):
                        - Rated by GSMArena
                        - Voting by group of approved reviewers. Example: Those with their own websites and have unbiased reviews (or no fanboy style reviews).
                        - Voting by logged-in members (They can still make multiple accounts to spam the votes)

The third option is the best. Painful but it will be for the better.

Also I feel that you should use a CAPTCHA code system which asks the users to type it. The catch is that the CAPTCHA should come loaded in about 20-30 seconds only. The dedicated voters will wait and vote and if he wants to vote again he will have to wait for 30 seconds which he might think twice before doing.

I would like to go with the second option with some modifications.
1: Use of logins for high end phones.
(most of the fanboys would vote only for the high end devices, this will help curb the fanboys menance)
2: Use the current system for the lower end phones.
(you wont find fanboys promoting an Asha or other such phones)

*I am not that familiar with the filtering and other systems online. This is just an advice from a non technical person who loves cell phones and religiously follows this website.
                                      :-)

Now this a slap tn all fanboys gsmarena neede to put up a article as such.gsmarena shud do this 1.POLICY OF ONE VOTE AND HITS WITHIN 24 HOURS :for a particular phone model only one vote should be allowed to cast from an ip adress in a day (thus deactivating the voting for same model for next 24hours from that ip) again making it enable to vote after 24 hrs same goes with HITS only 1hit shud be registered in a day (no matter how many times the user clicks the same model again n again) next hit frn same shud be reg. Aftr 24 hours this wud help a lot to curb fake vote and extra hits . 2.VOTING BAR ACCORDING TO SPECS: this is imp. E.g. A galaxy Y gets more score in design, features, performance than DROID RAZR thus making it to top of charts which makes really no sense at all. I urge gsmarena to allot a BRACKET FOR RATING DEPENDING ON THE SPECS phone shud be categorised into low end, mid range and high end according to what specs they have! Allow the low end phones shud be allowed a bracket of 1-4 for design, features, performance, bracket of 5-7 for mid range phones and 8-10 for high end phones with advanced specs what this categorisation wud do isthat it wud create a geniune chart of rating! 3.also i ask gsmarena to provide reviews of the better handsets not just putting up a review depending upon hits. Thanks
