Even though people say that they hate GSM Arena, they would still visit GSM Arena to check out info about mobile phones which really helps us in our decision about mobile phones that we buy and we can also keep ourself updated about the latest mobile phone updates, etc.
GSM Arena... You people are the best.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers!!

Option #3. Resetting the data is fine. People don't care much for older phones, so the lost data is trivial, and the data gleaned from this process will be much more manageable and usable.
You may want to try a scale, whereby one star means "good," two means "great," and three means "excellent." This may be a good halfway between your current system and the "like" system.

I would suggest the obvious fourth option: scrap the voting system altogether. Unless a person has a decent amount of experience actually using a device, I don't think their opinion on the device is very meaningful.
If you must have a voting system, use IMDB's strategy and only let logged-in users vote; and have a CNet-like "editors" vs "users" score. Have your own user loginas well as Facebook, and a captcha which should make spam less troublesome.

Voting is not the only problem in gsmarena. Commenting or replying to a comment is very irritating as phone users need to go through the whole login process. A solution would be to have infinite time login. Commenting or rating a comment would be as easy as hitting 'like' in facebook.
Voting issue could be solved by letting users give positive, neutral or negative point. Positive=2 points, Neutral=1 point and Negative= 0 point. Later an average should be made to see the total score. So a maximum of 2 and a minimum of 0 can be obtained. So basically a number between 1 and 1.5 would mean a 'go for it' status and between 1.5-2 would mean 'must have' and so on.....(less than 1 would mean that more people didn't like it or found the phone to be an average.

Xerxes' solution sounds good:
"- Force all users to sign up with GsmArena and get an ID (unique email is necessary when signing up)
- Allow a registered user to vote for any phone only ONE time a day (both limit the ID and IP)
- Only accept votes that is not very different from current score, for example: current vote score of design for XYZ phone is 8.3, a user votes 2 for design of this phone, then this vote should be rejected because it's obviously biased. The tolerance for determination of biased votes should be argued and set by mathematical formulas (GsmArena knows it best).
- Any user who is known for many biased votes, should be banned and all of him/her other votes be ignored and deleted from Database."
But, a user shouldn't vote for any phone for one time a day, ONE TIME ONLY. Use captcha system for automatic voting. And using a voting weightage system like IMDB helps to seperate fair users from fanboys.( According to number of biased votes users voted.)
I think this alternative is more accurate! In current system, there is wrong results so it provoke users to vote extreme points. If you release a new voting system, users will vote more conciously.

Scrap it. No voting at all. Internet voting is neither democratic nor meritocratic and never is a reliable indicator of anything.

number 3 please. The pros outweight the cons, plus it will just be a matter of weeks, even days for the stats to fill up again.

Make voting system more accurate by following 3. Allow users to vote for a phone once by registering the IMEI.

AnonD-9420, 20 Apr 2012I think you guys at gsmarena should also give STAR RATINGS ... moreI agree.
I don't have a Facebook account myself; and I've been telling GSMArena for years to develop a standalone database and allow users to create a login - and allow votes only for logged in users.
@GSMArena,
There's a reason a SEPARATE login helps - ppl will create a login if they're interested.
Now I'm a fan of GSMArena, but not too crazy about facebook, so I don't have an FB login.
Why should I get one, when the only reason I need it for is something other than FB.

It would be better if you guys rated phones based on a number of different criterion example style, speed, ease of use, battery life and various other tests.
