an idea. please dont let people vote on how good the product is until its actualy released. there are so many phones not yet out and you have over 5,000 votes on some already. just an idea :)

Neighter of these options sound good with 3 being the best and 1 and 2 being the worst.. We wouldn't want to lose data for less popular phones, especially older since they wouldn't get new votes and it'd be impossible to tell how good are they.

What I'd recommend is.. leave the old votes BUT scrap them out of the top 5 lists and for new phones introduce voting via logging in OR for your phone only either from that phone or by picking it in the menu after logging in with your account - and being able to change your phone at most once a week. If you don't like the latter part at least I recommend keeping old votes and introducing a new system for new phones. That way you won't lose previous data (a lot of it, a lot of significant data too) and introduce a new system for new, relevant phones.

Also add a different system for rating unreleased phones (not being able to vote until the phone is out).

i've been an avid reader of gsmarena for over a year now and i do think that the voting system is lacking.

it would be best if you let voting as the main privilege of those who bothered for 5 minutes to make an account, after all most sites use this system and not without reason.

Option 3 sounds the best. It will be of more value if you can use two or three types of accounts. For example, Facebook accounts, Google+ and Orkut (I couldn't think of worthy third :) ) . Of course, if you try to support more account types, then you're handing the fanboys an easy way to game the system.

I like to do that but on different sites and very rare.
After vote person have to comfirm on email - it is time consuming create couple of mails
By filtering when someone is puting series of votes(little helpful to add info about os and browser ver, screen res and so on)
update stats of phone 1 time on week (so they do not know if they work payed or not that easily)
display different votes to ban users
votes starting to count is stats in 1 or 2 months

I prefeer less votes but accurate results. you can keep the viwed times of each phone. Normaly the 1st thing i watch is the interest rate then the overall time watched. You can add separated eras of viewing like most watched this week, this mouth, last mouth, etc...
                    cheers

I like "Log in to vote" system, but does it really has to be via facebook? Can't we just somehow log in directlly to gsmarena?

The last option looks the best !!

                            Hi GSMArena

                            I would prefer this approach:

You come up with the ratings based on your reviews and other reviews from the genuine websites- credible websites :)

Then put a tolerance limit to the ratings. Any rating beyond that is fake or user might be in the process of exploiting the true potential of the phone.

For eg - Build quality - Say 9/10 for phone like, say Nokia N9. The polycarbonate unibody which has impressed various critics. You can put the tolerance of plus-minus 0.5(just example :) ). So any rating beyong 8.5 and 9.5 should be discarded.

This will disappoint the users on the threshold but I think over a period, it will be more rational rating of the phones.

                            Regards
                            GSM

I suggest Positive interaction for loged in users only
Why do you care about phones that no one care about and vote for???!!!
And starting over is inevitable since all the data you have now is useless. All Phones are 8.3 so why start from 0 instead of 8.3

i dont see any logic in voting any phone for its popularity...no matter what ever system you implement or use, it has no application in gsmarena....we come here to get to know about the phones and their reviews by an authentic team....you guys dont need to have voting system here. i am visitng gsmarena daily since 2005 and i have never ever voted a single phone.

dont allow to vote below 5.

I think number 2 is the best, and by the way a lot of people has Facebook, and with this method we can make Facebook more popular! :D
