Nick Tagataka, 04 Apr 2020Yeah sorry about that, they probably didn't fire *everyone*... moreShutting down a section and firing people these 2 are entirely different.
I think Samsung moved most of them to GPU research department.
I'm just guessing here because they have done the same thing with the camera department previously.

Nick Tagataka, 04 Apr 2020"As a consumer thats the loudest statement one can make" E... moreBoth GPUs of Exynos or snapdragon are not impressive that what anandtech s20s exynos review mentioned and snapdragon 865 Adreno GPU 650 has the same performance as Adreno 640.

Neither the Snapdragon 865 nor the Exynos 990 variants of the S20 are particularly impressive when it comes to GPU performance.

Starting off with the Snapdragon 865, Qualcomm did excellent in terms of their power efficiency and managing to reduce total power consumption compared to the Snapdragon 855. However the chip is still being curb-stomped by last two generation of Apple SoCs, and there's a lot of catching up to do in this regard.

From a device-standpoint, the Snapdragon S865 S20 barely performed any better than some of the more gaming optimized Snapdragon 855 devices from last year. The silver lining here is that both variants of the phones have outstandingly good thermal characteristics, and are usually not allowed to exceed around 42°C peak skin temperatures.

The Exynos 990 S20 variants are an outright disaster in their gaming performance. The best-case scenario here is that the new phones barely match last year’s Exynos 9820 in sustained performance, with the S20 Ultra behaving extra weirdly and sometimes falling even further behind in performance than that.

For attentive readers who noted the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L in the tables, that’s because I wanted to give some sort of notion of the Mali-G77 in a different SoC. That unfortunately didn’t help too much, as the performance points of the two chips are far too apart to come to any conclusion. What’s clear here is that SLSI clocked the GPU very high to match the peak performance figures of the Snapdragon 865, but it comes at the great cost of higher power consumption at those high frequencies.

The results of the Exynos 990 here reminded me of those of the Kirin 960 and Kirin 970 a few years back. Those parts also came out with some inexplicably horrible power figures, which I've since then heard that the matter was blamed on the use of beta GPU RTL as well as early process PDKs. Ultimately, whether it's due to Samsung's 7LPP process node or the implementation of the Mali-G77 GPU IP, the end result is that the Exynos 990 here just stinks, and those variants of the S20 have to make due with a second-tier experience.

There’s to many ways to kills the throttling with easy, but it will take time plus don’t forget that your s20 ultra variant runs dual sim including Esim and sd card all these option cause more throttling and this one of the reason why I sold my S10 for S10 5g that comes with single sim, no sd card the phone runs always cooler even though it’s Exynos 9820 even performs better than my pervious Exynos S10!.

Nick Tagataka, 04 Apr 2020"As a consumer thats the loudest statement one can make" E... moreExcept i dont really have a complaint about my Ultra aside from the heating issues.

I am not an exclusive samsung user and after note 8 i told myself no more samsung phone and yet here i am - with an exynos phone. We cant deny that they still make the best android phone.

And like i said, if u dont want a product just dont buy it, instead of yapping about their disadvantages.

Nick Tagataka, 04 Apr 2020Because of lack of GMS?Yes and the fact that its owned by c c p

I've checked a few 120hz phones, and the Samsung takes it to a different level. The camera and battery are the only real issues, and neither of them are deal breakers TBO. The performance even with the Exynos isn't really noticeably lower than the Snapdragon.
It's great that Samsung disbanded the disappointing Custom Core Division. Hopefully it improves on all ARM core designs and increases the speed of incorporating these into SoCs.

Am slightly disappointed at Samsung's handling of PDAF, 12MP wide angle and a few other issues. But I will be stick with Samsung. I don't think the P40 pro is that much better, only slightly. Plus I am avoiding Huawei as a brand entirely.

AresinUAE, 04 Apr 2020No i dont need to understand that. It is simple - it is bus... more"As a consumer thats the loudest statement one can make"
Even if we all did that - that wouldn't tell Samsung that them putting Exynos SoCs on their flagships was the reason behind the loss of sales. However, actively promoting the inferiority of it to Snapdragon SoCs on the internet and encouraging tech websites to compare two variants definitely would send a message to Samsung that we would no longer put up with the performance disparity between them and they would need to change that somehow.

We all had kept complaining about it and forced them to stop custom core development last year, leading them to a right direction. This whole Exynos 990 debacle will be a final push for them, hopefully.

Nick Tagataka, 04 Apr 2020You need to understand the true problem here is Samsung is ... moreNo i dont need to understand that. It is simple - it is business, they want to push their own chip and as a business they can do that. And from what i understand the SD865 chip is paired exclusively with 5G modem so maybe dont blame Samsung but Qualcomm for that.

And its even simpler, if you dont want the exynos version, then just dont buy the phone. As a consumer thats the loudest statement one can make. If in the next version they do listen then its good but im not gonna cry foul bacause of it.

There is no 50x zoom option on S20 Ultra, there is 30x.
I doubt you even tested the phone.

AresinUAE, 04 Apr 2020S20 ultra 5g model also gets the update here in UAE. Yes... moreYou need to understand the true problem here is Samsung is shipping phones with completely different performance, throttling behaviour and battery life under the same name and selling them at roughly the same price, and you're forced to buy the inferiour model unless you're lucky enough to live in one of four countries - SK, US, China and Japan. If you pay $1400 for a phone and the GPU throttles down by 50 to 75% after 30 mins of 3D gaming then you know something is fundamentally screwed up with that product. Those who should be and are truly angry at Samsung regarding this matter are not haters nor fans of other brands, but active Samsung users themselves.

Yes ive turned off almost all autosync and regularly updates. Unfortunately, i shouldnt be doing that in the first place as it defeats the purpose of using multiple devices.

The thing is ive been comparing it with a 6-month old Mate 20X 5G with no autosync turned off and that phones battery and CPU is almost always just above 30C while the Ultras battery is almost always at mid 30C and CPU at always above 50C even with minimal usage.
