Not a single display test will tell you there's a single LCD that's better than the OLEDs on phones like the soon to be released OnePlus 8 Pro, or the S20 Ultra, or even some older phone's OLEDs. I was talking about state of the art mobile LCD which runs circles around your run of the mill AMOLED offered on 90% of the phones today. Mobile OLEDs are far, far away from TV OLED panels it's not the same thing.

Mamami, 12 Apr 2020Xperia 1 display is literally made by Samsung. Even the bes... moreAll mobile panels either LCD or OLED are made only by few manufacturers but controllers and drivers are not. Most of the time these are made in house and they are the ones that make the panel good or bad. So if your OLED panel is constantly shifting frequency or suffers from pulsing in low brightness it's not the panel it's controller. Yes mobile LCD can be better than OLED because pentile OLED has less amount of subpixels than LCD in the first place. So FHD LCD has more density than FHD OLED on mobile screens. Viewing angle is better on LCD than on OLED, there is no question about that. LCD doesn't exhibit color temperature shift depending on the viewing angle and much like how mobile LCD can't produce pure black mobile OLED can't produce pure white unless it has that white pixel which it doesn't.
Like I said you have to see XZ2 display to truly appreciate how deep blacks can go on LCD and how it can also achieve that saturated OLED pop through some trickery that Sony does. I can type all day long how great of a display it is but if you like good mobile screens I suggest you go on ebay and spend $240 on used XZ2 to experience proper LCD display yourself. It puts to a shame 95% of mobile OLED displays on the market right now. Unfortunately XZ2 Premium is even more expensive than Xperia 1 so I don't recommend it unless you really want true and proper 4K mobile screen and/or shoot very low light video.
Manufacturers have shifted to OLED due to smaller packaging compared to LCD and potentially save battery (which every users nulls when they run their OLED on high brightness while web browsing and chit chatting in apps that generates enormous amounts of heat and requires more power compared to LCD on high brightness, in other words most users don't know how to use their OLED screens and dark mode isn't helping much)
And when it comes to Gorilla Glass you can coat as much as you want or need any surface pretty much. Just knock with your nail to hear the sound it makes, on Samsung and Huawei it makes shallow sound which means there's not a lot of it. Then tick with your nail on XZ2 to hear that thick thud.

Tell me how LG upscale MP3 audio? No, LG can't. Tell me how LG firing audio output front it dual front speakers? No, LG doesn't have dual front speakers.
Camera quality LG still capture yellowish portrait on it LG V60, it is not realistic and stacking image with less texture, that's the weakness.

If they're using their phone with a repeated image then a LCD would be better due to burn in.
LCD in general are brighter but Samsung has done so much innovation on their OLEDs that it's basically the same now.
Everyone wants OLEDs on their phone... I just want mini or micro LED LCD screen lol.

The Gorilla Glass level of protection doesn't affect the feeling of the product, as you said. Even if it affected how the product feels in the hand, every single Sony smartphone you cited actually had the same level of GG as their competitors, just take a quick look here in GSMArena. And, yes, they are almost all overpriced, because they cannot offer the same level of quality in cameras, displays (even the 4K gimmick LOL), even in audio (LG is laughing rn), but ask for the same amount of money. And, yes, you're the classic Sony fanboy.

Bigger processors, external 5G modem (S865), 3-4 big cameras, periscope camera, laser autofocus, depth camera, dual front facing cameras, under display fingerprint sensor, waterproof design, dedicated AI or camera chipsets, wireless charging, stereo speakers...
And unlike your Redmi, phones have panoramic displays nowadays so that takes up space too.
Entry level smartphones lack many of these features so the extra internal space is used to bump the battery to 4000-5000 mAh. To counter this, flagship phones have become huge nowadays at around 6.7", to be able fit all of that.

Take 2018 XZ2 in you hand and then take S9 or P20 from the same year, you can tell right of the bat that Sony has a whole grade better build quality than the other two. First thing you will notice is glass cause on XZ2 glass feels like glass while on Samsung and Chinese glass feels like plastic cause they use thinner GG coat. Same is true for XZ3, Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 compared to their rivals. Then there is the screen, XZ2 LCD runs circles around S9 AMOLED or P20 LCD. XZ3 OLED runs circles over S10 AMOLED as well, Xperia 1 screen completely owns Note 10 while Huawei Mate 30 Pro comes real close. But unless you've seen XZ2 Premium 4K LCD screen you've never experienced a good phone screen. Too bad you won't find XZ2 Premium anywhere for under 800 unless it's super banged up
