The Sony Xperia 5 II may be the smallest 5G phone yet

10 April 2020
The rumors are a bit shaky, but they describe a phone with a sub-6" screen (the 2019 Xperia 5 model has a 6.1" screen).

everything under 145mm could be considered as "small" nowadays as most phones that came out during the last 12 months are way over 150mm tall.

How can you call this device small? Its everything but not small. A small phone starts under 13cms. Even my s10e is too big sometimes.

Thick phones aren't bad but there is a limit for some people with weak arms that don't want to carry a hefty phone; even if compact. Largest you'll probably find is like a 3,500 mAH battery until battery technology can finally catch up. Granted, because it's less screen, it's actually not that bad but optimizations definitely have to be taken into consideration.

Fayth, 11 Apr 2020how small is small? if sub 5inch, then instant buyNowdays you dont need small . Even if you have small hands like me after using 6.3 6.4 inches you get used to it. It would be a pretty huge downgrade to get sub 5 zoll. To tell the truth i was confused about the s7 edge first i saw but it was ok. Then op6. It was huge but now its fine. 6.5 inch is the border in my view at current. Of course it depends on many factors and lifestyles but they follow the demands such as we do

This sounds great! Hopefully the size will really be compact and the price will be competitive, or at least make a midrange version of this. Not everyone wants or can spend flagship prices. Competitive midrange specs and price would be awesome.

Oh, and while we are at it: Please don't make the back glossy, that will only attract fingerprints.

They should go back to the Compact phones, I mean really compact like the Sony XZ1 Compact, only 4.6in I think

I feel like I'm waiting for a very such thing. Sony had been releasing a compact model with one skipped one done manner (except xz1 and xz2). And now its being a right time I think... Though Xperia 5 it self tries to fill the gap, but this one would be in very truely...
Whatever might be this, I had been using every compact from time to time and always been completely satisfied by every aspect of each....

Gentlemen, you have my attention with this one! If the price is right, it might be able to compete with the iPhone SE 2020 and the Google Pixel 4a. Damn, at least 2020 will (might) be a good year for compact phones.

I myself don't really care for a flagship chipset, a proper and solid midrange chipset that makes for a smooth experience is all I need, coupled with a compact design of course. Under 145mm would be epic!

And I'm really talking about how companies should use this downtime form Huawei etc to target the West. Oddly, it's one thing that Google get right, they offer two device sizes. Unfortunately, aside from that, they get the implementation wrong. Poor batteries don't help. I buy bigger phones as the batteries tend to be proportionally bigger.

TheGoldenMellifluous, 10 Apr 2020Well, Xperia 1 II is Sony's Premium heir family lineup, and... moreTBH I could not care less for history of Sony, their perspective, their "smartphone lines", DNA etc. I care for final products.

Luckily for Sony I do care for Sony I care for Xperia 1 II and possibly Xperia 5 II.
