Sony moves just 400,000 smartphones in Q1

If they released the Xperia 1 II when they announced it, I'd bet the sales wouldn't be so awful. Sony release phones only once the hype has hit rock bottom.

        I really love the flagship
        However the big gap when they announce it and when they actually sell it kill it for them

          Already if Sony continues to present phones and sell them 3 months after that will only have contributed to the fall. I often bought high end Xperia and I have never been disappointed, because they are always of a very good quality of manufacture which knows lasted in the time there I am in a Xperia XZ1c and I would have liked that Sony is doing as before. But hey, after all it is a big company and which is not mine so it does what it wants, if it gets up all the better if it flows too bad for them.

              Sony quality actually SUCKS! They are average at best nowadays. This is NOT the 80s anymore people.

                I've had 4 Xperia phones. Sony phones are great conceptually. The problem is the design is usually atleast one generation behind. The high prices typically lead to very poor value propositions. The Xperia 1 II and 10 II look very impressive, but between the design and price something will keep most consumers away. Sony was probably my favorite brand longer than any other, but designs have changed significantly in the past 2-3 years and they have shown resistance to embrace the current design language.

                  Sony announced new phones in February that are huge improvements over last year's but still have not come to market. Why would any Xperia true believer buy last years when the new one is almost in reach. The battery on my 3 year old Xperia X is almost at end of life and I am nursing it along until I can get the Xperia 10 II. I will buy an OEM replacement battery for the new phone asap just because I can't find one for my X. Sony mid and flagship phones definitely have a longer life expectancy than POS cheap phones so you don't need to replace them every 12 to 18 months like so many others. "OOOH look at my new phone." "Like dude, didn't you just get a new phone a year ago?" There's a reason Xperia has a core following and it because we like quality phones.
                  Now if they would just put that Walkman software and logo back on Xperia. Removing that in 2015 was a mistake that cost them some fanboys. Having had an FM Walkman in jr high and several more through the years including the W550, W995, and the Xperia Active, I'll keep that candle burning.

                    Sony is such a sad story. Could have been so much more. For me after 9 years and 4 different Sony flagship devices I got bored of lack of support, inadequate firmware update and an unexplainable obsession to limit the hardware (cameras, connectivity, etc). The latest bunch of phones does not appear to change this trend. On top of this they are expensive.. Just because. For a company that is trying save its business, they are acting like they want to get rid of it.

                      Not surprising in the least. Their flagships were good but how many people actually buy flagships. I would have loved to have owned a good midrange from Sony but their prices were downright crazy for the mid range considering how poor the specs were.

                      The Sony L4 looks beautiful but at the same price range you get full HD screens, FAR better processors etc so unless you are a Sony fanboi there is little reason to go for Sony.

                          Sony should treat all their devices like flagships. With so few models each year. But they hardly exceed what android one devices are offering for less money.

                                  Problem 1 - They're too expensive and Sony are too arrogant to reduce their prices and think they can charge the same as Samsung, when evidently they can't.

                                  Problem 2 - Poor brand awareness, they hardly advertise and they have retreated from many markets

                                  Problem 3 - They have their annoying habit of using small batteries in their phones which has given their phones a reputation for bad battery life. The only people who are willing to put up with that are iSheep.

                                  The new Xperia 1 mark 2 is step in the right direction, bigger battery than last year and they brought the jack back. But still too expensive, still no advertising and the battery is still smaller than competitors like the S20+

                                        As expected, Sony. No surprises. For the same money, people chose better specs over 'quality'. Most people bought the so called 'low quality' device still serves them good for 2-3 years. Marketing? Almost non to zero for Sony, yet charge high prices like other device that throws a lot of money at marketing (some even cheaper).

                                        In Sony Ericsson days, they nailed it. After ditching Ericsson, slowly downfall of Sony. Rise up positively since Xperia 1, but competition is higher. Xperia 1ii finally looks like a promising flagship phone for the price. Xperia 10ii? Nahhh....theres a lot way way better devices out there for the same price.
