No wonder we end up with crap like these. https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/aiknf4/i_fought_apple_and_won/

      2) The bugs are a little too much but hey it's not the only phone that has bugs problem
      3) The price tags of those phones were good since they started with it but it has to increase as time goes on.

They should use a flat display instead of the curved one and remove the color filter & add a 5x optical zoom.

I mean, that's just hilarious how peoples think you need to build a phone like a submarine to not fry in a nanosecond with a single droplet touching it, and meanwhile, here is how the Russian pressure suits for Soyuz are sealed :

Anonymous, 14 Jun 2020The ingress protection against dust will also protect the u... moreWell, you can still do proper IP rating like phone without requiring the IP rating, the Oneplus before the 8 are a good representation of that, also we should switch to magnetic connector which are better than ports and they don't have any water or dust issues, for the speaker there are solutions, like membranes or using a part of the body as speaker (like the display as Huawei did it).
Yes it does, I never said it doesn't, I said it won't matter, it would require long exposure to water and the little dust that get it won't do much to the device.
Plus, all that are still fixed with electromagnetic pop up anyway.

Except that regardless, they don't cover that, I literally copied/pasted the relevant part of their warranty pages, it clearly say that they don't cover either accidental fall, or water damages in general (accidental or not).

And this is EXACTLY what I said :
"also most company sell their IP rated phone as being submersible when you see their ads"
They do these ads perfectly knowing that even IP68 doesn't mean waterproof, IP rating is about ingress and water resistance, made for example, to prove an exterior IP camera will resist to the rain, or that the sport watch you wear will resist if you splash it while doing rafting, but it isn't about real extended underwater operation, in such case you really need waterproofs, not water resistant.
But they still do ads like that, giving to peoples the illusion their device are made to operate underwater, but they are made to resist a limited time in such conditions, that's totally different !

Enough for humidity and dust to go in.

There is a difference between a phone dropped in the toiled or sink by accident and someone that takes it to the pool.

I know, most peoples care about IP rating for the water bit though that's why I only talked about water.

Still, most phone without pop up dont have any issue with dust without having an IP rating.
And for phones with pop up, the phone itself won't have any issues in the long term as only a tiny amount of dust can come in, and even in a really dusty environment, there won't be enough to really damage the device (there are computer working fine with ton of dust).
The pop up itself only started to show recently a little jam when too much dust accumulated and solidified, which is easily fixable by re calibrating the pop up, which is performed once and it is fine for a while.

Electromagnetic pop up wouldn't allow any dust in the device itself as it can/should be done with the pop up module sealed off of the rest of the device.
Also, if done properly, when in retracted position, it will have a little margin down (for the springs) that would allow the user to manually push it, un-jamming it in the process.
The way I imagined my concept, it would also allow for easy removal of the pop up without opening the device, allowing it to be cleaned if needed, also using a contact pins based communication between the device and the pop up sensors allowing to exchange the pop up module if required.

                        2)
Sorry but this is false, also most company sell their IP rated phone as being submersible when you see their ads (and lets be honest, almost no one will check in the warranty or conditions page, except me to prove that water damage isn't covered), and well, many brand doesn't really cover that even in case of accidents...
                        Oppo :
                        "Instruction for Out of Warranty"
"This warranty does not cover man-made damage nor any of the following conditions, however, paid repair services are available."
                        ...
"The phone is damaged due to improper use (such as falling, squeezing, liquid damage, etc.);"

Xiaomi require you to purchase the optional "Mi Protect" to get water damage, "Fell in a liquid" and "Tea / coffee spilled over" as they say on their website.
It obviously imply the regular warranty doesn't cover that.

                        Huawei :
"What is not covered by the Warranty"
                        ...
"d) Misuse, abuse, negligence or an accident howsoever caused."
                        ...
"f) Spillage of food or liquids, corrosion, rust or the use of wrong voltage."

                        Samsung :
"5. The warranty is not applicable to cases other than defects in material, design and workmanship. The warranty does not cover the following :"
                        ...
"Accidents, Acts of God, lightning, water, fire, public disturbances, improper ventilation, voltage fluctuations or any cause beyond the control of SAMSUNG."

                        Apple :
"Do you need a repair for other issues like the Home button or liquid damage?

If your iPhone issue is covered by the Apple warranty, an AppleCare plan, or consumer law, there's no charge. This does not include accidental damage, which requires a fee."
                        Then some other paid options...

I just checked the biggest one, I didn't cheat and avoid a brand that actually did cover them, I am sure I could find on every other brands similar idea of no water damage or no accident covered or being covered but only with additional warranty fee/subscription etc.

Only if it is reasonably priced. Else 7t or the upcoming Z are the only options.

bilalsadain, 14 Jun 2020They can't if they want to preserve IP rating I guess. IP rating is useless actually, water damage isn't covered by warranty (by no brand, which tell you a lot about how confident in IP rating they are), and it doesn't guarantee your device actually can survive in water, only that some random devices passed a certain test with clean water in controlled conditions, and I don't even think it require to be repeatable to pass...
It is like smartphones with 100+MP camera while some 12MP ones do comparable job or 16GB ram, maybe some niche app can get past the 8GB on Android, but 16 is just for having big numbers and almost no one, games or not actually need it, IP rating is the same thing.
I'd take a smartphone without IP rating but with water damage covered by warranty over one with IP rating without hesitations !
And I wouldn't put any "IP rated" phone under water anyway unless there is warranty and it is an armored phone.
The OnePlus 7(t) Pro was already water resistant enough to survive way more than enough use under rain and accidental drop in water, you don't need more than that.
Of course it would be tough for the pop up to survive long time at 2m depth and the millions you pay to pass the IP rating are gone if the test if failed, meaning they won't risk it even if the phone would pass the test.

Also, if one brand was brave enough to do the little and cheap R&D it take to make an electromagnetic actuated pop up, it could be done in totally sealed compartment, meaning totally waterproof and IP68 compliant, no moving parts except the pop up itself and virtually no wear.
