Who wants to have a screen with such a huge cutout?? No one! That's a big mistake, OnePlus.

Very stupid move, but I'd like to correct one thing, OnePlus is technically not an Oppo subsidiary, they're 2 companies that are both (alongside with Vivo) subsidiaries to BBK. So yes they share a lot especially R&D costs but it's more of a sister relationship than a mother/daughter one, like realme for example.
One other thing, unlike those meaningless "ultrawide" selfie cameras that very few people care about ( I guess all those selfie fanatics own a selfie stick) and rarely manage to get good selfies like on the pixel 3Xl (which even then google decided to let it down). Huawei's approach is completely different, they're playing a long run game that will benefit them in the future. Once the technology of under display sensors is mature enough to put everything (including the camera sensor) under the display, we're going to see more android companies adopting more advanced 3D face id technology (alongside the fingerprint sensor), by then huawei would have the upper hand and would have the best face id performance in the android realm.

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2020They are under same company they can share some technologie... moreOneplus is actually a subsidiary of Oppo so they get a lot of resources and tech from Oppo e.g. their fast charging, Oneplus pay, the Oppo customized Sony camera sensor etc. Mostly minor tweaks on their phones as it saves on costs to use the same screens and components. The Oneplus 8pro is practically the same phone as the Find x2 pro for example (same screen, main camera, ultrawide, processor). Most of the differences are minor (telephoto lens, charging, and selfie cam) Software is probably the biggest difference between the two but that's true for most manufacturers apart from those that have their own chips which is basically Apple, Samsung and Huawei. I think the OP7 pro was the only phone released so far by OP that wasn't similar to a previous Oppo device. It's not a bad thing though. It's nearly impossible for a new independent brand to have a chance. Small independent brands have largely disappeared

Those tweaks make the device better then his siblings so just wait for its final release, no need to speculate now.

So… what next? They're gonna put 4 frontal camera sensors, just like on the back? Make the entire top of the screen a huge pill cut-out?

Why do these OEM's think pill cutout is okay? It's a major turn off. I was considering this phone, but not anymore.

OMG I am thankful that the second is an ultrawide, not a useless depth sensor on the front.
