In typical Microsoft fashion! You need newer, more powerful hardware with each OS upgrade. Just like Windows on the PC, now also on your smartphone. More electronic garbage to kill mother earth.

Every one has to accept the fact that Windows phone 8 is not an update. It was never expected to be . It is a completely new platform . With new hardware . New kernel . New codes . New UI, new apps . Its all new . It can never run on single core phones. We cant blame microsoft for this . They are trying to improve and compete with their market rivals . Same strategy is followed by apple and google. Yes iphone 3gs got update but it was just for the name sake update , only to calm the users . There was nothing new that came to old gen phones just some ui tweeks.[Infact how many single core phones got ics ] I can see some guys claiming that newer phones with lower specs have ics like one v. But the truth is that that os is not ics it is just a complete revamped version of ics . Those phones will never be able to run full features of ics. As for custom roms. google never recommends custom roms right. And they never provide warranty for those . So there is nothing to blame microsoft about upadates . It is just a general problem of every software firm . Soft ware can be changed but hardware cant . So i advice u guys dont be mean and narrow minded

colombiatulua, 21 Jun 2012IOS are doing the same no all the cool stuf will be on 3GS.... moreYou think: "IOS are doing the same no all the cool stuf will be on 3GS."
NO: There is a very important difference: the old iPhones like 3GS, while missing some features, still get the real LAST IOS versions, INCLUDING ability to use LATESTS Apps from the App store.
This will Not be the case for WP7.8 users and inability to use WP8 Apps...

It was already a given that everything leading up to Win 8 was first generational (I'd cautiously say more like public beta), and the real thrust would be Windows Phone 8.
I bought a Lumia 900 and had every intention of buying the next generation hardware (as it was clear there were going to be significant hardware changes ie Superphones (in a previous posting).
MS said this a few years ago already.
Bring on the new hardware I say.

And why did you buy them to get WP8 when NOTHING has been said about them being upgradeable? Quite the contrary really, considering their single-core processors...
I can understand a certain level of frustration for not being able to update relatively new devices, but that's no excuse for, pardon the harsh words, stupidity... Or is cluelessness a better word?

I don't know...
Lot's of android devices aren't upgradeable to ICS either, but still selling.
iPhone3 will only get partial benefit from the iOS6 (which was hugely underwhelming in itself anyway).
Granted, the Lumia devices are still pretty new on the market, and should probably have had half a year more to make some money, but with an average lifespan of 18 months for a phone, and the launch of WP8 sometime this fall at the earliest (with actual phones probably not showing up before Christmas or even next year), I don't think the timing is as bad as it's made out to be...
Everything hinges on Nokia having a kick-ass WP8 handset or two (with Pureview!) already in the pipe for launch this winter!

I have S1 and there are plenty of ICS ROMs and way better than Android stock like Slim edition ICS.
So stop making lame lies because Samsung/HTC/Sony are already updated most of their 1 - 1.5 years phones to ICS except LG.
And Android is open source you can use custom ROMs unlike the jail restrictive OS = M$ WP.
Go kick yourself for buying lame outdated phones from Nokia!
