Only Lumia 900 users are getting the 7.8 update, this is shameless!!!!! Whats going on Nokia?? What about the loyal Lumia 800 users who bought them last autumn?? Do we get cast aside and left behind with no more updates and developers obviuosly now stopping the apps plus current app support. We are up to 8 months into 2 yr contracts!! Or £500.00 out of pocket for a dead os and poor apps which now will not grow! You, Nokia, should have more respect for your loyal customers, this is shameless! You should intervined and ensured that the people who have paid good money and still do through contracts for your Lumia 800 got something to soften the blow of not getting Windows8. And! We dont mean apps that we were using years ago!!!!! this just leaves a bad taste and is a huge let down!!!!!!.......we,we,the Lumia800 buyers stayed and got your ball rolling when it was tough......we, we were part of your vision, part of the plan, in it with you!!!! now we're literally left behind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really dont know what im going to do now im not happy at all to be treated with such obvious contempt. Microsoft have killed 7.5 and Nokia have let them WHILE! Still selling their out dated os. this is truly unbelievable not for one second did i think that Nokia would allow Microsoft to cut adrift their most loyal supporters! I really feel like that oil rig worker on that burning platform.......again! Me and my familys phone will be getting changed in the coming months as im not a strong a swimmer as i used to be.
GSM Arena would you please send this to Nokia.
Regads a livid ex Nokia survivor
Peter. (Liverpool)

I don't think Microsoft or its OEM's are too concerned about the 6% of smartphone users that purchased a Windows Phone handset in the last 18 months. It's fair to say they're chasing the other 95% with WP8.

At least they're getting an update. 90% of android users will never see ice cream sandwich or the features it introduced.

I was planning to buy a lumia 800 but I guess I have to hold my breath a little bit longer then... Sales of these legacy devices will plummet if not totally stop...

It's not a hardware problem, but definitely a chance to push users to buy a new phone! Galaxy S+ didn't get ICS, officialy because of too weak hardware, but now we've got a HTC Desire C with 600 MHz and ICS! Joke, isn't it?

no offense, but I'm a bit happy hearing this, because price of wp7 device might drop with this announcement.

I'm planning to buy lumia 610 for my mom, so I hope its price drops any sooner :)

WP8 phones will not be available next month or i think even anytime this year. Be contented with the 7.8 upgrade until your current phone will be about a year older when WP8 phones will be available.

3GS a phone from 2009 will get iOS 6, yea not all features but the most important feature will be there: Third party app compatibility.

3GS will run iOS 6 apps.

WP7.8 phones will not run WP8 apps.

For those complaining about the upgrade not available to WP7.5, especially Lumia 900, bear in mind that the hardware on those phones can't take advantage of the new features coming with WP8. The CPU only has a single core, the screen pixels can't change, phone has no NFC chipset? Additionaly, it looks like the new apps like maps and IE10 will need more memory than available in current batch of WP7.5 devices. The only disappointment is that new apps may not work.

A disgrace whichever way you look at it...

We can all b1tch about Android updates not coming...

But for a fledgling OS that has to compete against a very strong iOS and Android - this smacks of either money-making or zero forethought for the consumer - either way it's going to put a lot of people off from moving to Winmo...

And of course as this is Nokia's last chance - Germany T Mobile not selling Lumia 900s because of this very reason...

Why will people bother next year? That is the question...

A terrible, terrible strategy regardless of manufacturer, but will hurt Nokia the most...

                          :(

And of course, after all of these upgrades, can anyone tell me if you can at last use your own mp3s as a ringtone on WP8? No mention of the basics being upgraded at all...

Any sign of separate volumes for ringer / media / alarms too?

i agree that microsoft coudn't probabbly have upgraded the current line-up to WP8, but i am so happy coz i waited and didn't buy lumia 800 or the costy lumia 900 (mainly to duo to the limited hardware!), the packages these device should be getting are reasonable though and should improve the performance of the devices, and i hope microsoft will finally support language writing from right-to-left like arabic and simple things like bluetooth sharing and usb-storage mode in WP7.8!

How many CPUs, how many architectures, how many devices does the Linux kernel supports ? A phonebook long list.
How many legacy architectures Windows Phone 8 was supposed to support to be WP7 devices compatible? ONE !
                                A rest my case.

android fan boys also did the same once. they spread that Nokia belle is a copy of of android. rather android was copy of maemo 5 from Nokia only.
and the worst part was that bloggers were also posting this.
Samsung copy things like s-voice(siri).god Samsung is so insecure about such things. Microsoft doesnt even gave their speech recognition a name. they dont copy.
