I can totally understand why Nvidia wants to do this now. The FTC is more corrupt than it's ever been so it is more likely than ever they'll get an anti-competitive move like this approved.
Nvidia has virtually no interest in ARM, all of their competitors has huge investments in ARM.
Nvidia controlling the evolution of the architecture used by its competitors? This could permanently damage tech evolution more than any recession or pandemic.

Andreidinutu, 01 Aug 2020You are quite close minded aren't you? If they go nuts... moreIf arm was easy to replace there would already be someone succeeding at that, intel 70s 80s x86 architecture is still around.

You talk of cheaper prices but don't you know it will be the opposite if there is no competition?

Anon, 01 Aug 2020hope Nvidia doesn't stop at Arm only, and get Leg too And go for a HEAD so they can assemble EXODIA !!! Thus becoming unstoppable !!!

Because Arm is too important to be owned by nVidia.

this is a type of monopoly and you know how monopoly is very bad for consumers... just look at the nvidia graphic cards with out rival for years and how they increased the price absurdly

This sale is never going to happen. Too many companies depend on Arm, and they'll do everything to block it because NVIDIA never plays fair. When Softbank bought Arm nobody cared because Softbank is investment bank not competition.

And lets not start to talk about various regulation commissions. UK, USA, EU, Japan and PRC's regulatory commissions/agencies would get involved (and probably even more) and just one of them is enough to block whole deal.
