Apple is jumping to arm as well the implications is far more serious than he realises this isn't just about mobile socs ...
Nvidia lost big time to AMD in the console space especially with the switch as Nintendo wanted arm based technology

This might be GReAT for mobile division, but it'll be an end for consumers...
i wont explain anymore, you better look at nvidia's previous contracts and read about them..
I once was a nvidia SHEEP, but i ended as a hater. you might as well become the same if you check their past contracts/decisions...

AnonD-558092, 01 Aug 2020Why are people worried? NVIDIA is not a player in the mobil... moreHave you heard of the Tegra chips in Nvidia Shields and Nintendo Switch? They've been making ARM chips and competing against other chip makers. They failed spectacularly when trying to make chips for mobile phones but I think they're planning a comeback.

Why are people worried? NVIDIA is not a player in the mobile and tablet market. They don't even have GPU tech licensed to anyone. They wouldn't benefit from keeping ARM tech to themselves. And if a regulatory force ever glimpses upon this deal, surely the licensing process would be guaranteed to be preserved to allow the transaction to be conducted.
OTOH, that could possibly mean better SoCs for Windows ARM with GPUs that obliterate Intel's iGPUs (and allegedly the best Qualcomm alternative only manages to match these GPUs, not sure if it was versus the HD620 or the Iris Pro ones). NVIDIA doesn't have GPUs for mobiles (poor thermals).
Also, SoftBank wanted to water down ARM to recover the money they speculated on them. ARM was about to get worse anyway.

If they will manage to clear some of the sh*t that is now in Arm company. I heard that they have some problems with the CEO of Arm China. He is refusing to step down or something. lol.

Oh not only laptops with ARM Nvidia may be able to make desktop ARM CPUs if there are ways to make em compatible and competitive against x86/64 if so they may also join the race to be the third desktop CPU manufacturer and will very likely happen... That would be the biggest win for OEMs & DIY PC builders alike if we could get more competition to the market! :)

IpsDisplay, 01 Aug 2020This is very very bad news
People don't understand... moreIf the news is to be trusted then "advanced" talks basically means it's a done deal on both sides with some minor details to be hammered out.
The only thing left is how the regulatory gods respond to this, which could make or break the deal but from both companies perspective, deal is basically done.

MagicMonkeyBoy, 01 Aug 2020This could be a great move for Android!!! Wouldn't min... moreThis is actually a major problem but also a possibility, for phones its a disaster if Nvidia buys em since then all competing ARM users such as Samsung(works with AMD for its next-gen graphics), Apple who makes their own GPU, Qualcomm & Mediatek who often work with Imagination(GPU designer) will all be at a disadvantage if Nvidia doesn't play nice. Spoiler alert they are known for playing dirty! The possibility how ever is that we may see ARM+Nvidia iGPU laptops coming to market and if ARM+powerful GPU= more ARM compatible games for Windows? Yay?

IpsDisplay, 01 Aug 2020This is very very bad news People don't understand... moreYes, it would be great if Nvidia cuts off chip supply to Apple and Qualcomm. Let the US suffer some comeuppance.

Having a tech company own ARM is way better than Softbank.
The only issue I see is that Nvidia don't have the cash for this. The 260B figure is mostly based on assets, not money in the bank.

That doesn't sound right. "$260B" market cap notwithstanding, nVidia only has $11B in cash. ARM's parent company Softbank really needs the cash right now, I don't think they'll settle for NVDA stock certificates.

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2020It could be possible for Nvidia to stop licensing ARM IP to... moreThat seems unlikely. The reason for this whole fiasco is to earn more money. They can’t earn money if they sit on technology that they don’t license to anyone.

It could be possible for Nvidia to stop licensing ARM IP to other companies and make themselves the sole source of ARM chips. Wouldn't that be delicious?

It sounds like a match made in heaven but I'm positive this won't be cheap for the consumer...
