Weekly poll: Did Microsoft get the Surface Duo right?

16 August 2020
The Galaxy Z Fold2 got an even split, but that's actually very good for a foldable phone.

I think it is a good device but it's not a phone and it'll be very hard to use as one. I don't even know how to take calls with it. I think it is a foldable tablet with 2 displays.

If Microsoft is willingly to sell this product. They need to reduce the price to $1,000. Since it uses last years chipset. Plus, the capability to utilize microSD card.

So people are calling this foldable tablet underpowered...
Calling the last years top tier SoC, the SnapDragon 855 "underpowered". It may not have this years SoC (SD865), but it's still a high-end chip (with great ISP, DSP, graphic units, AI support, etc).
And since it is made by Microsoft, expect way a better & deeper hardware-software integration than any other similar Chinese product.
The only negative part of this product is the high price.

"Productivity" and "6GB RAM" don't make any sense...

JDK, 16 Aug 2020In my opinion, microsoft has the right idea on their hands,... moreIt was made when SD855 was the latest chip available.

The NO choices are bad, imo. The thinkpad hinges were nice but this is usable only when opened. No external screen or at least an option to remove the other half.

                SizN80, 16 Aug 2020Completely agreed with this.Great concept,but underpowered ... moreProductivity doesn't necessarily equal heavy usage.

Microsoft knows productivity, but it lacks credibility in the smartphone world after the windows 10 mobile fiasco. They disappointed every single loyal customer who was still invested in windows phone and they abandoned the platform after talking big and deliver very little. Good luck to them this time around

Nobody's concerned about those bezels compared to a device like the mate xs

I chose weak SOC and battery, but I belive this topic is much more complex and there are more issues why I believe this device will utterly fail in every regard.

They got it right except for the outdated processor.
BTW when is the full review coming?

The responses are a bit arbitrary. I don't think it's underpowered but I definitely think the battery is too small.

LG should just replicate/reverse engineer what microsoft's software bundle is for the surface duo and put it on the V60 through sn update and we will have a cheaper yet better specced phone than the actual surface duo, have the extra rear cameras and even 5g.

Weekly poll results: "People HATE the Microsoft Surface Duo"... Sigh

I think this is what LG envisioned with their dual screen phones but they didn't have the software prowess Microsoft has to deliver. Microsoft is a solid 10/10 in executing what the surface duo is supposed to be... that is, a phone that is built from the ground up for productivity. My only criticism is that they seem to just want to target a niche market who wants a device to replace their tablet or laptop without even batting an eye for the younger crowd who may want something like this but also be able to take pics or vid or even vlog. It lacks a lot of the features needed for photography and only has a selfie cam which is for video conferencing rather than anything possibly fun or creative. Would be nice if they also have a product line aimed for that. Adding a rear camera backed by their version of computational photography and a powerful editing software would have checked all the boxes. But I know they are coming for the market that aren't into that.

i voted "maybe" since this one has good concept... but so far, the "removable" second display of lg phones are better, imo... as it is more versatile, i can remove it if not needed... at least in my use case... this one is second... i like the idea of viewing charts on one side and buy/sell pane on the other side of the display... split screen is good, but this is better especially if all apps are supported on the screen... foldables of motorola and samsung are also good but i cannot imagine myself using it, basing it on how i use or want to use a mobile device... so, to rank the fold or dual screen implementation, here is based on my opinion...
                                      1 lg dual screen (v60, v50, velvet, g8)
                                      2 microsoft duo
                                      3 motorola
                                      4 huawei mate x
                                      5 samsung fold

This device suffers from mainly taking too long to be released. If you're gonna drop a ton of money on a device like this, it should have added at least the X50 chip to coincide it.

Battery isn't the greatest either. That sucker needs to be at 5,000+mAH to make it by.
