Google Pixel 5 renders show a design nearly identical to the 4a

24 August 2020
Except with an extra camera on the back, of course. The front is nearly indistinguishable and the Pixel 5 will be about the same size as the 4a too.

Early gossips (months ago) pointed that Pixel 5 was going to use 12MP 1/1.76", like Samsung.

Atleast use Dimensity series if you want to cut costs.

Two sensors with optics to cover all possible needs, love it.

This one probably has a glass back as well, which is considerably nicer, but I am loving my 4a so far. The 4a 5G is supposed to be like an XL variant of the 4a I believe.

AhmedSLL, 21 Aug 2020A rear fingerprint sensor?! What is this 2015?!!It may be old school, but it's considerably faster and more reliable than any under display fingerprint sensor.

Fearghast, 21 Aug 2020I have telephoto on my phone, but the quality is so subpar ... moreWell, I think we both agree then, I quite often reproach phone maker to use stupid low resolution sensors.

*IMO the main sensor should be either 12Mp or 48Mp 2x2 binning.
*Wide ~16Mp and ~Ultrawide 19Mp to not let fewer pixels per degrees give lower quality of objects compared to the main.
*Telephoto should also be 16Mp, but mainly for giving some room for digital zoom on top of the optic one and still get a good 12MP equivalent.
*And while regular Macro or Portrait are fine with 12MP, a zoomable version of those should seek something in the line of ~16Mp.
*And of course, the depth sensor, being literally useless at 2Mp or even 0.5Mp or less quite often should also be 12Mp, so the depth map being able to give per pixel accuracy for all the algorithms to really do their jobs, like artificial brokeh, digital focus (with all hairs this time) and much more.

Though, my personal design (a fictional concept phone) would be way better anyway as it use two APS-C sensors (combined with many other sensors and a really powerful software/AI) :

But in a more realistic for today tech, imagine a phone with two IMX689, IMX700 or ISOCELL GN1 that, with large front element and a clever/good periscope, would have the capabilities I previously mentioned (combined main with "negative" zoom up to ultrawide, and telephoto, macro, portrait combo) with a good 12Mp 3D ToF, the result would be amazing.
After all, in optic, a large front element that get focused on a smaller periscope would give the same result as a equally large periscope compared to the front element, as photon density is all that matter.

I prefer it to the 6.67in phablet someone leaked not that long ago. The only downside is the unsymmetrical chin bezel.

Even when I tested Huawei pericope, the results are let's say less then pleasing to the eye.
It's simple physics and it feels like it's included just to sway a purchase decision with "look how many cameras we have over here" - we have decent wide, lower quality ultrawide with slow lens (unless you are LG), low quality telephoto with really slow lens, tiny, low quality cropped sensor or even macro with 2Mpix "quality".

Don't get me wrong, I do not argue the potential here ... I only do not like the low quality results. With 2020 technology I imagine wide and ultrawide as a decent setup that is able to deliver usable quality.
