Too much, too late is the best way to describe this phone. Especially considering that by the time it hits the shelves iPhone 12 and Pixel 5 will be available too.

The last sony flagship that is actually on par with Samsung S series, and the then LG G series with great improvement compared with its predecessor was sony Xperia Z2.

Shanti Dope, 21 Sep 2020Ofc they wouldn't use a chipset that wouldn't be ... moreI'd like them to make a Lite version of Pro apps for 10iii ....

        For example:

        - 7fps burst
        - 4K@24, 30 with 21:9
        - up to 10s shutter for stills
        - venice, warm yellow and strong blue luts
        - dro/hdr

scardis, 20 Sep 2020Imagine if Google let Sony make the Pixel phones for them. ... moreWouldn't change a thing really. Google would just ask Sony to build the phone, but the hardware design and specifications would still be done by Google engineers, and if they decide to leave the jack out again as usual, then nothing will change.

AnonD-955101, 20 Sep 2020For the most part yes, but for gaming forget about it. For... moreI'm just referring to raw performance capabilities in the standard level of the SD835, not with throttling.
Newer SoCs, especially mid rangers, have the advantage of better efficiency due to better fabrication process.
SD765G is basically a more efficient SD835, so something as powerful as the SD835 but without the heating issues would be the most adequate SoC for everything. And that's basically the SD765G in a nutshell.

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2020765G would sacrifice Cinema Pro. Also the weaker ISP from... moreOfc they wouldn't use a chipset that wouldn't be powerful enough to handle a brilliant software like that.
The only point I'm trying to make is that for general users who just need a reliable phone that doesn't exactly do everything the best can easily settle with something like this instead of wasting twice as many features that people with little to no knowledge will never use.

Yes I know. Better in-house ISP can drastically improve imaging performance.
Good that SD400 can run it, but for heavier duties, you would still need more power, and I can say that the 765G is the SoC that could handle majority, if not all of the heaviest of things one can imagine doing on a smartphone, and anything beyond that are just focusing more on other features like 8K video recording, 4K HDR 120fps, etc.

It'll be very hard to find a negative angle to focus on in reviewing this phone. Still this is a Sony and this site is GSMA. No way a Sony is passing unscathed. Waiting in amusement for the review.

I think Xperia 5 Mark ll may sell fine in the EU market. They still got some phone carrier partners here. So we might see some bundlings deal etc..And maybe something at BlackFriday to. Sony often got some campain during that time.

But for the US, its a different story. They have no carrier partners and a limited distribution.
So they may sell a few, but probably not many devices.

Other brands do it weeks before.

They do not all info on internet months before the event.
Samsung announces Galaxy S in mid february or march, but we all know everything phone has since november.

Omar Mukhtar, 20 Sep 2020In Afghanistan with that price you can buy Galaxy S20 UltraThan buy it.

this is not too late but release of Xperia 1 Mark 2 was horrible for making us wait so damn long... and when it comes to the chip, it is still awesome and it is not like as if people are waiting for summer to buy a new phone, they buy phones when they need them, so it is a great option loaded with most important features besides wireless charging, so it will be a great options to those who know what to look for

I love excuses haters come with to bash the 21:9.

                          - You are not supposed to watch movie on cellphone, but can watch youtube videos.

                          - You should not watch movie on cellphone, but can play all games there despite being more complex task and better done on tablet.

                          - You should not watch movie on the phone, but can create power point presentation on a tiny screen instead of using your computer.

Can you explain the logic behind that opinion of yours?

Imagine if Google let Sony make the Pixel phones for them. An Xperia Pixel would be quite a powerhouse if it took the best from both companies.

                                I really love it

Seems like a decent phone! I may grab one at half the price in a year or two!

iOS Never Again, 20 Sep 2020IPhone 12 5.4 inch variant can't compete with Xperia 5... moreIt'll probably also lack a charger and will have a cheaper, smaller battery this time, according to a reliable leak. Suddenly the 5 II looks of incredible value now

IPhone 12 5.4 inch variant can't compete with Xperia 5 II in the compact segment.

IPhone 12 5.4 inch version lacks a lot of things from high refresh rate to headphone jack to card slot to bigger battery.
Biggest advantage of Xperia 5 II is that iPhone will be running on restrictive locked iOS which diminishes the overall functionality of the phone which is why Xperia 5 II is simple the better option despite the 100-200$ premium.

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2020Z Ultra was hard to use with 2 hands. Imagine 7" 16:9.... moreThis reminds me of the Z Ultra I bought after being mesmerized by its sleek design and the thinness. Too bad the screen cracked after two weeks as it was too thin and a large phone. Fortunately my Z2 Force is also just as thin in a more pocketable size. Moto should revive it's Z Force series, both my Force phones are too old by the end of 2020, I need an upgraded Force now
