This is still too big, like 1.... moreThe tall form helps grip the phone better as its width is lessened with 21:9 ratio, some find the phone to be taller than normal because Sony doesn't use notch or punch hole on the screen, so there's extra space above the screen to fit the sensors, earpiece and camera, but in all, it only improves the looks of the device and I personally like it. And yes, Sony should out a phone to compete with the iPhone SE. A compact Xperia, at the size of the SE would be really wonderful and I'd buy such a phone in an instant

First of all, Both Xperia 1 II and 5 II are answers to Sony fans complaints. They themselves mentioned in their interview.
Secondly, 4K 120Hz is not possible for now (ask Qualcomm) and battery hog. But I do agree that they could have given option 120Hz at 1080p for people who love 120Hz (Xperia 5 II is out now). I personally prefer 4K over HRR.
Thirdly, don't generalize everyone based on few persons you met. Each has their own taste.
Finally, Jack is asked by Sony fans, Boxy design asked by sony fans, No notch design asked by Sony fans, Front facing speakers asked by sony fans. I thank Sony for not following blindly non Sony fans who love round faced mobiles. They retained 21:9 is also due to the survey conducted by them to only Sony mobile users.
Xperia 5 II is for people who prefer 120Hz over 4K. Xperia 1 II is for people who prefer 4K over HRR. Choice. That's what it is about. Unlike other smartphones, you actually have a choice for 4K as well as no notch experience with front speakers. It is about media. While other choice HRR mostly about gaming unlike for media experience.
PS: Wireless charging is another thing most Sony fans don't care about. Xperia 1 II have it. It is better to have than nothing but Xperia 5 II doesn't due to price and thickness.

Of course, I am not saying Sony phones are bad, but this are the facts.
If you look at the phones sold in the last 3-4 years (quantity wise), Sony always was having 1-2% each year. And this is what I was trying to say in my initial comment.

Don't market the way Samsung done in past. You say camera phone? So give us 1$ mobile tripod, dead-cat case and not a frikin Call of Duty lootbox ffs.

Since people from this website likes the phone I reckon it won't sell that well. The same situation that was for the Xperia One mark 2 will eventually happen again.

I miss Sony's Compacts. This is still too big, like 1.5" too big. Also, when will Sony finally abandon the horribly useless 21:9 display ratio? Screw this noodle.

but we already have adaptive charging and vooc is something different...
but in general, they do degrade faster on fast charging...
we can welcome both...
as long as a phone can last a day, it is now depending on lifestyle...
if you practice overnight charging, a "one day battery life" phone is good enough...
if you change your phone yearly, then getting the fastest charging is a no brainer...
at my end, am at home with xperia, i care more of longevity, z5 premium can still lasts for a day... though my z1 compact, the first gen, already has low capacity and that was the time when there is no adaptive charging and qnovo yet...so i expect xperia phones to last longer than the z1 compact...
