I think some users won't even care. If you want the latest updates then buy the future-proof phones.. them high ends. Manufacturers are likely to support them for years. Chances are you must have changed phones by then.

So LG L7 which is a single core with a low end GPU gets ICS out of the box but Optimus 2X won't get the update? REALLY? I can't find the logic there and for sure my next phone WON'T be a LG.

In fact, to all those mumbling about Galaxy S2, the bigger question should be which flavor of the S2 are you talking about? You may have already realized they are not all the same (I9100 vs I9100G), being the owners of the G (so far) on the sorter end of Samsung love.
If you want continuous official updates to your phone, then go for the Google Nexus line. (A shame it has to be this way, manufacturers and Google should do a better job and tackle this issue together)

The exuse made by Sony is lame. They just wanna scrape off all Sony Ericsson phones. All folks using 2011 phones and down, Sony has abandoned us.

i was amazed when i 1st saw the optimus 2x and decided to wait for other brands to see which is the best. got my self sensation then the galaxy s2. for the quad core beasts, i got my eyes set for the optimus 4x because it looks better but i guess LG does not provide support and update to their devices like samsung does so probably i will get the galaxy s3 for future security and assurance that my device will always gets the latest as long as the hardware can take it..

Well if you dont like sony, you can go purchase htc. But once htc not providing proper update you can simply switch to samsung then when sony release new design and hardware you can flying back to use sony brands. Then again back to htc, samsung and again back to.sony. Dont make this issue like its gonna be the end of the world. Your money your choices. No way manufacture point a gun on your head force you guys to buy their product.

I used to buy sony phones some years ago, but stopped because of the lack of updated. I was thinking of getting one of the new ones, but I see nothing has changed with sony, so I think I'll go with someone who won't leave me without updates after a year.
while companies keep doing this I'll keep not buy there products. Seems fair to me.

Sony shouldnt use the excuse "were developing new phones all of the time and making sure they get the latest updates" as an excuse for not giving updates to older phones. Why dont they create only a couple phones a year MAX! and provide updates to all of them for 2 years.

Damn it LG!! Why cant optimus 2X get Android ICS ? My friend's single core xperia ray has ICS ! I made a huge mistake by trusting LG....they never had it in them. Next time I am sticking to Samsung(there must be some reason that they are no.1) or Apple(iphone 3GS getting iOS 6, now thats called customer satisfaction & even thought some features might be missing , latest and upcoming-in-future-apps are guaranteed to work).
Just QUIT LG(Lying is Good)!!

If companies like these continue doing this, i will only have 3 cellphone chices left: a nokia lumia wp8, iphone 5 or the nexus, i dont trust even samsung

I like android, but phones of 2011 and 2012 wont have the last OS. And the iphone 3gs of 2009 have the last iOS. Its why android will never, never beat apple. I think that the only 2 OS of the future are iOS and WP8
