Nick Tagataka, 13 Oct 2020Umm.. As I already said, it uses remosaicing to construct 1... moreWell.
That makes more sense.
But it's not happening as it happens with other sensor.
Because IMX 608 has Quad bayer.
Just try to understand.
A IMX 689 has quad bayer 12MP resolution. You will get 12MP standard and 48MP with debayering.
But For IMX 608 you're getting 10MP as standard because it's a quad bayer.
demosaicing means full resolution no matter what the CFA is.

AnonD-754814, 13 Oct 2020I think you're doing a mistake here.
If the final im... moreUmm.. As I already said, it uses remosaicing to construct 10MP image then uses super resolution stacking to eliminate false colours and wormy artifacts while increasing the resolution.
Essentially, from a sensor that only caries 2.5MP of chroma resolution, a 10MP image is constructed just like a 48MP image is constructed from Quad Bayer 48MP (which is essentially 12MP in terms of chroma resolution). But since 10MP output produced this way suffers from texture distortion and false colours, the camera then stacks multiple images in a Google's super-res-zoom-like manner to cancel out the Bayer pattern. This nearly quadruples the resolution and you end up getting a usable 10MP image with good details with minimal artifacts.

The bayer is still 4 to 1. The CFA is different.

AnonD-754814, 13 Oct 2020Wait ! GSMARENA says it's a Quad bayer.GSMArena is wrong then. TechInsights took a photomicrograph on the sensor and it is indeed confirmed that 16 pixels with the same colour filter are grouped together. Huawei also stated it explicitly during P40 series announcement, and the actual RAW images back up their claim as well (10MP RAW with remosaicing artifacts, instead of 40MP one).

On top of that, this is the only way to explain why 1920fps slow mo is possible on both P40 Pro and Mate 30 Pro. Since Huawei didn't specifically say that they used DRAM-integrated stacked sensor (which they most likely would have if they really did), it's very likely that the sensor was specifically built in a way that allows such high speed readout - that is, very low native resolution.

You're the one who argued last time Apple is lying and LiDAR and ToF is the same thing, no difference.
Now when I'm arguing with a guy who thinks LiDAR is completely a different technology and here you're going against me again.
So, what's your motive actually ?

AnonD-754814, 13 Oct 2020Well, Your explanation went above my head. Basically: Instead of binning 4 or 9 pixels like Quad Bayer or Nonacell senosrs do, the one on P40 Pro and Mate 30 Pro bins 16 pixels. Hope this will clarify things.

AnonD-909757, 11 Oct 2020Great explanation, except that it is totally wrong.
You ha... moreAgain saying,
If a ToF is used for real time 3D depth mapping then it's called LiDAR.
Manufacturers can call it anything they want.
For example Leica calls it's 130000$ LidAR a Laser scanner that doesn't mean it's not a Lidar.
Pixel 4 has 2 IR sensor at 2 different place. You just don't know what triangulation 3d depth mapping is. That's why you're arguing.
You're just confused.

What myth? What is the basis for this assumption? "Physically moving parts wear out over time" isn't a myth, by the way.
"A pop up is the best option"
Quite frankly the worst for water resistance that the majority of high end flagship phones come with nowadays.

Because?

AnonD-754814, 11 Oct 2020We have already discussed on this topic and we both agreed ... moreBoth Mate 30 Pro's and P40 Pro's UWA camera uses RGB 16-in-1 Bayer sensor. It has 40 million pixels but in reality its chroma resolution is only slightly above FHD.
