Geekbench results for iPhone 12 surface, show modest performance gains

15 October 2020
The 12 and 12 mini come with 4GB RAM while the Pro models get 6GB.

Cross platform GeekBench performance must not be compared as well?

Thank heavens the Pro models have 6GB of ram, they're now going to ace YouTube speed tests without any other phone touching them.

In reality though, it really won't make a noticeable difference. But people would complain if it were 4 sooo

I bet battery life will suck. They always say "1-2 hrs better battery life than last year's iphone" during their events but were quiet this year.

        Apple and Kaiann :

The A14 Bionic is the most powerfuk chip ever in a smartphone.
The A14 Bionic's CPU and GPU are 50% more powerful than its predecessors (it is comparing against the A12 Bionic, not the A13 Bionic)
Antutu scores and Geekbench are very disappointing.

Apple lied to us. Apple is now not innovative. I don't know why their products are still popular despite all that. I am pretty disappointed by Apple's Chipset team. The A14 is still good, don't get me wrong. But it is not maximized yet. A13 gains from the A12 Bionic are huge despite the same 7nm process. While A14 has very little gains over the A13 despite the new 5nm process.

The most powerful chip in the planet earth right now :

        Kirin 9000

        1. Best CPU
        2. GPU (not sure if it will beat adreno)
        3. Power efficiency
        4. ISP (evident by auto mode in photo mode that outperformed other phones night mode and RYYB processing)
        5. Integrated 5G modem which means better power efficiency and better signal
        6. Best connection (it's huawei bruh, huawei is good at connectivity)

JDK, 16 Oct 2020There was a posed geekbench score with a 4152 score, so the... moreThese are scores with background activity, low power mode, or even throttled. And like with every other soc, you can have lower scores and post them in GB database. (is one of the reasons why even with some A13 results reaching 3500, the average is below 3300)

          Like this S20+ 5G with S865
          https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/4192049

Or this one, with a really weird low single but normal multicore:
          https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/4191842

Peak performance is not warranted by any company. This ones are probably real but doesn't show the full performance of the chip.

Let's wait for a more controlled environment like with anandtech tests.

Apple is doing the right thing. They actually managed to produce smaller, sleeker devices, which will result in better haptics and usability (I know, design is not something Android users care about with their devices being 6.5"+ on average wink wink) while still managing to achieve a slight performance increase and keeping battery life roughly the same, despite reducing the capacity quite a bit. Outside of synthetic benchmarks, nobody will notice the rumored performance advantages competing 2021 flagship SoCs. The only major fault I see with their new device line up is not giving the Pro models high refresh rate displays.

just the fan refuse to accept it..

dbjungle, 15 Oct 2020This is still fast af.Agreed. Anyway, the faster the clock speed, the worse the better life. I would rather have longer battery life efficiency, as opposed to the fastest SoC speed.

Anonymous, 16 Oct 2020Nothing can beat apple simpleI don’t know man, the Exynos 2100 and Kirin 9000 seem to be way better than the A14. The Kirin 9000 is more powerful than the Exynos 1080 by a smidge, and probably a not as good as the Exynos 2100 by a smidge. The 875 is yet to be seen, but the trio are generations ahead of the A14.

Modest design and modest improvements pretty much sums up this year's iPhones.

We really should all wait to see the final products of all mobile phones from all manufacturers with 5nm CPU's.

From what I've personally been able to understand from ARM is that the Cortex A78 to be found inside the upcoming Samsung and Qualcomm offerings can be substantially more efficient if the performance levels are kept on par with the outgoing A77 core found in the 865 and 990 SoC this year.

There's reason to believe through other rumours that Samsung and Qualcomm have scuppered the potential efficiency gains that could have been taken advantage of using the A78 and 5nm process.

The early leak/rumours indicate that Samsung is increasing the battery capacity further next year within the S21+, again perhaps this is because Samsung and Qualcomm are chasing extreme performance at the expense of efficiency instead of modest performance gains with substantial efficiency gains.

Where as apple on the other hand have rumoured at this point to have reduced the battery capacities this time round compared to the iPhone 11-series across all the iPhone 12 line.

At least in my country Apple has still kept prices reasonable relative to the iPhones 11-series whilst adding an OLED to the standard-12, mmWave 5G across all models and thrown in the 5nm A14, it can be noticed that Samsung will handsomely and quite easily charge an extra £100 simply for 5G across any phone within its galaxy range.

In my country despite the charger and headphones being removed Apple in most cases isn't actually charging you for this removal.

MediaTek and Huawei certainly don't seem to have access to the CXC program with ARM to use the Cortex X1, evidence by Huawei using an A77 as its prime core, MediaTek will likely use 4x A78 and 4x A55 in its upcoming fragship CPU.

I personally believe we have reached a CPU performance level for flagship phones which is fine as of 2020 and for the near future.

[deleted post]No, geekbench themselves say that iPhones score on average over 4000.

On Macrumors, it says that although a lot of the scores are way lower, it is because a lot of the iPhones are in the middle of booting and preloading, so the scores should be on the higher end of the spectrum. Macrumors tells that the highest score is 4125.

And it doesn't even include an integrated 5G modem on the like Kirin 9000. Now you know why Trump is so afraid of competition from China.

There was a posed geekbench score with a 4152 score, so the validity of this is questionable.

                                        iPhones should score above 4000.
