Apple to introduce the first ARM-powered Macs on November 17

The AirPods Studio, Apple's first over-ear headphones (not counting Beats models) will be the "one more thing" at that event.

              We already, some of us have the dev mac mini with the 2 years old A12Z
              That alone kick the current ultrabooks (not the 45W laptops) in terms of Raw cpu and gpu performance, less HEAT...under full load Intel chips runs around 88-100C while arm architecture runs at max 80C under FULL LOAD
              Battery usage is less, far less..so an mac that had 10 hours of light usage, this will have around 15-16 hours and under full load, almost every laptop cannot run more than 4 hours, while the A12Z can run over 8 hours...
              Keep dreaming and hating a company...that makes you blind about what is happens around you

                  For people who are talking about laws of Theromdynamics, please study Thermodyanmics and comment afterwards. For those of us, who have studied Computer Organization and Architecture know that RISC is as powerful as CISC! And when it comes to processors, TDP isn't everything. If processor organization is better on a 15W chip it can definitely outperform a 100W chip made with with bad design decisions.

                    Apple has proven this theory with their iphone; many of sheeps believed that Apple's SoC 'superiority' is a 'wonder', and belittle others' ARM-powered SoC. In fact, the reason for this is simple; Apple simply designed their SoC die size bigger, compared to MediaTek/Qualcomm/Huawei/Samsung. THIS, combined with bigger cache, resulting better raw computational power.
                    BUT, this also have drawback, such as inefficient battery usage, unable to integrate modem, which again, resulted in higher battery usage, making Apple's SoC 'tiger paper'.
                    Worse, with how restrictive iOS' nature as mobile OS, ALL that computational power are wasted, combined with the fact that Apple NEVER implement decent cooling solution on iphone, making this reasoning crystal clear that Apple never designed their SoC for better iphone's performance, only for Benchmark & bragging rights.

                    What's all this related to the 'new' Mac?
                    ARM's SoC design is NEVER intended for laptop / desktop.
                    It's RISC nature will NEVER outperformed x86 CISC.
                    Even the 'future-proof' RISC-V will NEVER outperformed x86 CISC.

                    What Apple wants from using ARM is high benchmark score, equivalent / better than Ryzen / i5/i7, therefore 'fooling' illiterate potential consumers that 'once again', Apple make 'miracle'; highly battery-efficient SoC (compared to x86), but have high raw computational power (which won't even mentioned that it's invalid, RiSC vs CISC is like comparing bike's engine (Harley's) vs car engine)

I love mac os for simple tasks and integration with my iPhone. I use my mac to RD client remote into a windows computer to do windows tasks and it works for me. I don't like dual boot and I don't like using Parallels or anything like that.

If it d... moreMe too, The headphone Jack for this would be awesome, But lightning port for charging but then again, a stand with wireless charging and the 3.5mm jack. I think 3.5mm Jacks are dead but, I also think the best audio quality cannot be achieved on apple using Bluetooth.

                              RISC-V and ARM are in a really tight race. Arm may have a crazy long head start but the affordability and customization heavy nature of it is what is fueling it's use with Apple and Microsoft to move away from Intel's strict processing guidelines.

                              I have no doubt Apple is moving in the right direction. Though, I hope ARM can overtake RISC-V. It'll be cool to see a RISC-V option of Apple computer in the future.

                                Does the Apple headphones come with a 3.5mm cable? If it does, I might buy it. I won't buy it if it end in a lightning plug.

                                I don't need a new notebook at the moment. If do, I'll seriously consider the new ARM Macbooks. The combined less heat and more energy efficiency will tip it in favour of x86/windows notebooks.

The reason Microsoft started diversifying to ARM was because they noticed Intel had lost the plot around the 4th generation Core processors, combined with AMD failing miserably around that time they started optimizing Windows for ARM. It's nothing new. They optimized Windows for all sorts of processors in the 90's when the platform wars were raging.
                                  AMD does look like they've gotten their things together and pushing the x86 platform forward. Intel is still lost with their +++++-iterations of old fabrics. :)

                                      Although microsoft is providing the x86 emulator, they are really struggling to make devs move their apps to arm-based apps. Because it costs a lot.

                                      We just have so many powerful apps that is written natively in desktop environment.

                                      If MS is also serious with their ARM version and actually cooperate with Apple so desktop apps can natively move in to arm-based, then it's a win for all! But a huge loss for Intel.

                                        Get ready for tons of bugs after switching to ARM platform and say goodbye to your ability to dual boot proper Windows.
