Does anyone remember how a few years back, Google quietly dropped the "Don't be Evil" company tag line?
Clearly they must be ashamed of what they were engaging in.
Either ways, Big tech censorship needs to be dealt with.

Google differentiated themselves successfully and tries to build on that, that's all. I wonder if it's just another political move so close to election.

It‘s their business model. It‘s greedy capitalism. And funny that the US government cares about competition while they want to destroy competition from China for their own companies. Years before they destroyed Nokia successfully, with help from EU regulators that allowed to sell Nokia Mobile to M$. Nothing new in this game. We even have a duopoly for mobile OS now which is completely controlled by the US.

The government is insane. It's clearly a business strategy. Any business owners would rather monopolize the whole market (if they can) than have someone as a competition.

Google has been manipulating its search services for years now.

While, of course you can pick alternatives, Google already puts them in your face, and you can't get rid of them. The Google App is preloaded, YouTube, Chrome, Gmail, Gmaps, GAssistant, all sorts of software with a G prefix that isn't even guaranteed to remain alive next month... But back to how it focuses on Search. G Search is integrated with the above services. So, even if one is able to change the default search provider in their browser, they'd still face G Searcj eventually while normally using their device's basic, preloaded apps, feeding Google with valuable information for advertising. And for users, there's little knowledge (or incentive) about how to use another set of apps.
This should be interesting, though the EU has a proven track record of being more severe and effective. I have doubt the FTC would order Google to be broken up, though it DID happen (Bell)
