Pixel 5 gets mediocre 120 points in DxOMark test

No one cares about phone bench marking. It's doesn't matter to the user experience. Other than incremental upgrades in a camera all phone have been rectangles with a glass screen that check email and watch YouTube and nothing more.i don't care about synthetic bench marks. This is not a gaming pc.

GSMArena just reporting from Dxomark (which is a popular testing camera site for some people) how Google Pix 5 camera performance. That's all. No promoting content of Dxomark because GSMArena has their own test too which maybe have different result.

Why is GSMArena reporting DxOMark tests? If I want to read DxOMark tests, I will go to the site. I am here to read GSMArena tests.
DxOMark has lost me over the past three years because the phones I have bought based on its recommendations have not been as reviewed. I don't want to accuse DxOMark of pay-to-play, but for whatever reason, their reviews of some Chinese products do not agree with my experience after I bought the recommended devices, so I have stopped relying on them.
I trust GSMArena's reviews based on my own experience with reviewed products and do not understand why DxOMArk has to be promoted here.

Lenses are hardware, so is battery , screen, motherboard, CPU , GPU, etc

For those of you Google fanbo... moreI actually expect Google to use a brand new 12MP camera sensor like the one in the Samsung Galaxy S20/S20+, Sony Xperia 1 ii/5 ii, and the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max. I can understand why Google doesn't want to embrace the Quad Bayer sensor because of software computation limitations (I mean, even Sony and Apple don't use Quad Bayer sensor either and Sony is the top maker of it), but Google at the very least should use a brand new one.

This score is kinda expected. For those of you Google fanboys criticising Dxomark for this score, you forgot how Google has kept the same main 12MP module for years already, while the competition is using newer camera modules. Plus Pixel 5 does not have a telephoto camera (which Google shld have kept in but they were too greedy for the profits), which means the zoom score is going to be much lower. No software tricks can make up for a real telephoto lens.
Let's be real, if not for Google's computational photography making up for the poor hardware, the score will have been way lower.

"Mediocre" 120 points? Just wondering why Pixel 3 and 4 have a way less points? I literary can't distinguish photos coming from all 3 generations. Anyway, I always agree with DxOMark Xperias reviews only :).

Don't be ridiculous. The camera hardware on iPhone and Pixel is clearly not up to the market standard and you know it. While Pixel 5 clicks considerably better looking photos than the previous generation, in many scenes they still look like they are coming out of a tiny sensor. iPhone 12/Pro has been a mediocre performer and looking through bunch of samples I don't find it any better than iPhone 11 series' camera (if any, the main camera & the telephoto are worse in many aspects), though 12 Pro Max might change the situation for Apple considerably.

Viv, 31 Oct 2020Ppl actually buy phones based on the scores from these people?I do, based on their overall camera score, if I want to prioritise Camera is the main driver for my purchase. Though test conditions vs my actual lighting conditions in my region is way too different (actually we get more light than Northern Hemisphere, hence outdoor pictures come better than these test conditions. DxO may not be perfect but so far no one could prove their findings wrong challenged them openly as far as my knowledge goes.

120 is not bad!! Better than iPhone 11 Pro, equal to OnePlus 8 Pro..... Only problem with that phone is cost, way too much just like iPhones
