Flashback: periscope zoom cams with smooth zoom are the future, but we already had them

The Asus Zenfone Zoom had only one camera module on its back and yet it could cover the 28-84 mm range with optical zoom, no digital processing.

Great article. Huge gap between zoom point and a dim sensor are really what keeps the tech from reaching optimum condition.

However, with larger sensor and PureView tech from Nokia, is it possible to combine both and get a smooth zoom considering 808 can go up to 4x magnification without any loss in picture quality.

    ASUS is one of the most underrated tech companies out there. Not just their phones, but their laptops & other hardware is pretty good. They have many innovative products under their belt.

    I hope they receive more recognition in the future. They deserve it.

    Also, i didn't knew about the device on this article, but it seems wildly impressive for a 2015 phone. Upcoming phones should use this variable focal length solution for the zoom sensor alone. That would get us the ideal smooth optical zoom without compromises to wide & ultrawide shots.
