Furiounx, 17 Jan 2021I mean yeah it’s alright but for a $1K phone you’d hope for... morePerhaps yes, but that's another compromise that you have to make in order to pull off a great phone with such specs.
Higher resolution means higher power consumption. To compensate, you'd need larger battery, but given that the phone's physical size is limited to what it is, the only way to overcome it is by having the phone bulkier.
It's either you live with that, or just give up on the marginally sharper visuals instead.

And yes I agree with you there; it’s ridiculous. I’ve already succumbed to that with an iPhone but I wasn’t necessarily happy about that hahaha

AnonD-558092, 17 Jan 2021OEMs will see that and think they can charge premium rates ... moreI don‘t know how it is with OLED, but a 1440p panel needs a backlight with 1.5x the light output (iirc) to display the same brightness as a 1080p. That is because the finer grid of the 1440p lets less light pass through.
There may be even more problems with high resolution, if we look at the fact that Samsung‘s 8K TVs from 2020 perform worse than the much cheaper 4K Q90T, but I‘m not deep enough into the topic to judge why that happened.

Now you are talking sense.! Let the TV and computer monitors have above 1080p+.
But, 144Hz should be the new standard though.

Don't make it sound as if the poll results were genuine , you barely give people options where's (90hz , IPS or OLED.... )
This article made it seem as if samsung made the right choice by having s21/s21+ to go with FHD .
but the thing that we've learned from samsung unpacked , was how good can a 1440p display with ARR (10Hz to 120 Hz) help preserving the battery by 22% .

blue.sun, 17 Jan 2021That's what I am talking about. You have a direct comp... moreAudiophile notice the difference in audio devices that's why they like the headphone jack etc but it's not everybody, but again 720p looks like trash, when I use someone's phone that is this inferior resolution I notice it even without being a side by side comparison.
It might be because they are usually ~270 ppi.
On TVs, monitors and laptop, low PPI is no big deal because you sit quite far from them, but on a phone you're closer, and even closer if you use your phone in bed.

Furiounx, 17 Jan 20211080p on a flagship? No thanks. It's adequately fine for screens below 6.2"
What's not acceptable for a thousand dollar flagship is not having a charging brick in the box.
