Hello Life, 17 Jan 2021yup in theory, for the same display size and resolution, a ... moreFirst off, I like LCDs for their balanced colours, bright whites... but I'm converted to the OLED team mainly due to "Dark Mode" and Always-On-Display. Huge battery savers there.
It is true that an LCD (RGB) is sharper than OLED (PenTile). And its noticeable at 1080p resolutions. You are wrong about perceiving an OLED as being sharper. Most people perceive the LCD as being sharper at 1080p, some perceive the sharpness at 1440p, very few people can tell the difference at 4K at mobile phone sizes.
So for a PenTile-OLED to match a 1080p-RGB-LCD, well the OLED needs to step up to 1440p resolution. You can get RGB-OLED, instead of PenTile, Samsung did this with the Galaxy S ii, S3, and Note 2. However, PenTile is a technology, and it is specifically designed to help show a higher resolution image by using lower power (and cheaper).... it achieves this by "sharing" subpixels. So technically OLED is superior to LCD, and PenTile is superior to RGB. Just like how Dynamic-Refresh-Rates are a superior technology to Static-Refresh-Rates, as they provide most (but not all) of the smoothness whilst using lower power.
So an OLED with 1080p-RGB-Static-120Hz definitely WILL look sharper, and feel smoother than an OLED with 1080p-PenTile-Dynamic-120Hz. However, the battery life savings from the latter will be huge that the differences (slight improvements) of the former aren't justifiable. This was my thought process when choosing my preferences in my previous comment :D

[deleted post]Here is my personal preference would be: DFiQTY
D - Around 70mm or slightly slimmer. So "large" phone category.
F - 17:9 is preferred. 16:9 and 21:9 are ok. Nothing stupid like 18:9, 19:9, or 20:9
i - 1080p its not the sharpest, but even with PenTile its sharp enough for me
Q - 120Hz-Dynamic is smoooooth. Point of diminishing returns at 144Hz.
T - Round corners, but flat sides, and flat display.
Y - 85% Screen-to-Body is compact, whilst giving you some bezel for comfort

I know that I have basically never used a 120hz display, but when I try it out, it really doesn't seem that different.
Yeah, I do see that the display is smoother, but it's not smooth enough to get rid of the scroll lag present.

Tbh I don't need 120hz or 90hz etc I feel 60 hz is jst perfectly balanced and I feel it's better all I need is better screen and software experience

For me a perfect phone display
Size - 6"
Resolution - 1440×2560 120hz refresh rate and 240hz touch sampling rate
Type - IGZO LCD
Aspect ratio-16:9
Or
Size - 7"
Resolution - 4k@60z with option of 1080@120hz
Type - IGZO LCD
Aspect ratio-21:9
Refresh rate
Last but not least it should be properly calibrated with accurate colours and with a top quality anti glare layer sheet like old Nokia phones with clearblack technology for better outdoor viewing

cyberlord999, 17 Jan 2021The ideal display is oled a flat 120Hz panel of 1080p resolution Hi,
I don't mean to criticize anyone in particular, but an ideal display should not be 1080p 120hz. I have seen a lot of comments, some have said there isn't any 1440p content to watch so you don't need a 1440p panel. Others have said TV has lower ppi do you don't notice it. Stand next to a TV, you'll see the pixels. How close do you think people use their phone to their eyes, I'd say if you extended your thumb and pinky finger that is the distance between your eyes and your smartphone in tropical use case. At that distance 1080p is much lower quality than 1440p. A quick test can highlight this, make a 4K video from your phone camera and play it back on a 1440p Vs 1080p panel at the distance most people would, not a mile away but almost next to their faces. 9/10 people will notice the difference. How much content is their in 120hz. I'm pretty sure no smartphone records video that plays back in 120fps, no streaming service does 120fps. So 120hz is currently more of a waste of battery than 1440p (prime video in 4k, YouTube, camera own video). But if 1080p was indistinguishable by 1440p, no smartphone manufacturer would bother using higher resolution panels. Even Apple uses panels almost 1440p because of that fact and allow 4k media playback. VR could take even better advantage of higher res labels but hasn't taken off yet. Why does Samsung's flagship offer 1440p at a massive size of almost 7" display- because you can tell the difference. 38% of people in the poll have said they prefer resolution over refresh rate. However this poll is biased as it asks to choose between 1440p 60 and 1080p 120. If it was a better poll that asked 1440p 60, 1440p 120, 1080p 60, 1080p 120. The winner would be 1440p 120. Also addressing those poor souls that believe 1080p will reduce price. Don't be naive, they have already overcharged you for years and now they only overcharge you less but sell less features to fool you into thinking you are getting a good deal. You could get the equivalent tech smartphone for half the price.

Should been an option to vote for:
"Ultra low energy 4K Micro LED 120Hz flat display"
I don't care what others can or can not see in terms of smoothness or sharpness. If tech allows us to have it, I want it. Stop stifling progression.

As long as that panel works well. Samsung messed up the touchscreen sensitivity with the S20 FE and hasn't fixed it completely. Hope the S21 doesn't suffer from the same issue.

Andreidinutu, 17 Jan 2021Have you ever even tried using a curved display? I think yo... moreNow have you tried a curved screen? I had a Samsung Note Fan Edition and S10 and tell you what, the color distribution is a bit unbalanced at the curves. Curved screens especially with thin bezels are also more likely to get damaged. I doubt phone cases with raised lips/sides (to protect screen from impact) will work comfortably.
I'm happy with a flat screen.

We humans have a 42, 43, 55 , 65 , 75 or 82 inches tvs at home capped at 4k hdr and we don’t complain. But a very little screen smartphone with 1080p+ display some people are complaining, beacuse samsung has downgraded from qhd+. 55" tv is minimum 7x bigger than the biggest smartphone. 4k is 4 times 1080p. 1080p is more than enough for smartphones. But its just psychological. When you downgrade immediately humans complain.

Shadocx, 17 Jan 2021Exactly, I feel like people who can notice the difference b... moreyup in theory, for the same display size and resolution, a LCD panel have more pixels than an oled. So a 1080p IPS should be sharper than a 1080p Oled, but in reality we perceive the oled as the sharper disply due to light uniformity. This was explained in an youtube video, where they compare a 8K Qled TV with a 4K Oled Tv. And for the same size, the oled comes out sharper to our eyes, until you zoom through microscope

I feel so let down by you guys! Why not 1440p at 120hz?!
I went from 1440p down to 1080@144hz and the resolution drop sucks! Don't tell me battery life as that's bs.
