And even for their secret chats, the encryption protocol, MTProto, is closed source, made in-house by people that aren't cryptography experts, not audited, and hence unreliable.

"Client-side open source" is a stupid argument. Something is either fully open source or not at all. Would it be okay for the server to do whatever it wants with your data (and keep in mind the in-house cryptography and default in-transit encryption which gives the server full access to your data)

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2021And what's wrong exactly with Telegram? As people have written on here that Telegram has no encryption unless both users activate it, Facebook msg has no encryption either by default. As many people are worried about government and big companies "interference", I do believe that telegram is Russian( not the best record on government-sponsored hacking) Signal is American( have to make money at some point by selling your data), Wechat is Chinese ( some truly awful restrictions and controls), While LINE is Japanese (although separate the parent company is Korean) makes most of its money by selling stickers and other services and not by selling you out to Google and Facebook

DantE O2, 16 Jan 2021to those genius who selected telegram over whatsapp i shoul... moreTelegram is encrypted by default. I'm not sure why everyone is saying that it isn't. It uses very strong encryption.

The default chats are routed through a server, which is not open source. The clients on our phones however, are open source.

'Secret chats' simply are not logged at all on the server.

Also Telegram can basically replace both Twitter and FaceBook. You can 'follow' people on it as well.

        Just read the FAQ's:

Do not under NO circumstances believe what Facebook say, firstly they didn't mention the 'business' side of things, and once people start leaving they start mentioning it's to with 'business'. Secondly, they say messaging will stay secure but personal information is what they will be transitioning across to Facebook, that's what the problem is here and they don't mention that. Now they have delayed the whole thing to try and prevent people leaving but what they were going to do with the privacy policy shows their intent, and this delay is all a lie to put wool over people's eyes but in the end they will do it anyway.

WhatsApp like Instagram is a ‘free’ service; we can’t be hugely surprised that they would want make use of our data. If you’re not paying for the ‘product’ you are the ‘product’.

IpsDisplay, 16 Jan 2021This is the first time I've ever mentioned censorship ... moreYou comment the same nonsense some people did on the ban news. Wouldn't surprise me at all if you had multiple accounts. It's not censorship if you have rules against certain actions and statements to begin with.

I provided you with the argument that Signal currently isn't a social media and isn't linked to one. Even if it was, your "cEnSorShIp" cry was completely out of place and unnecessary in this discussion.

You say I don't know what I'm talking about but have not provided any statements to prove why

It's a simple logic WhatsApp shares DNA with Facebook and their security scandals it's no surprise that because of its ties WhatsApp was prone to these practices

Now it is reasonable logic that signal may follow any flaws of its Twitter roots

Maybe the world need to find replacements for Facebook-Watsapp-Instageam, Twitter and Google-Youtube

They're huge bullies, very low privacy, and terribly one sided terms of use.

I disliked Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram even before this. I can't explain it really, I just do. Is not necessarily about privacy, but I just don't like companies or people who creates monopoly. Who want everything. Because those companies or people are usually capable of anything.
