Qualcomm reclaims the clock speed title with the Snapdragon 870 5G chipset and its 3.2 GHz CPU

19 January 2021
It is based on the S865, the plus version of which ran its prime core at 3.1 GHz. This also means that this is a 7 nm chip and uses an older architecture.

not a bad thing imo, the 865 was a capable chip, so no need to stop producing it. It will consume more power than the 888 but will also cost less with the old manufacturing process.

            [deleted post]IPad??? Thanks...but No thanks!!

            Surface Pro is my choice.
IPad starts crying 😖😭😢 when Surface flexes it's functionality muscle.

This article will confuse the hell out of every reader even the techies one.

the SD870 is just an SD865 with a higher clock speed Prime core(3.2Ghz) + newer bluetooth chip(5.2)

I guess finally the will be something to fill the huge gap between 7xx and flagships.

The first that supported 120Hz (4 years ago):

It's a nice to have feature (bad for the battery), but a gimmick on those small screens.

There's a few games that really work with the 6" touchscreen, but the only one I can think of that's that and also not P2W is Auto Chess. Clash Royale is a really good distillation of MOBA mechanics into mobile (and a very good eSport to watch because the whole play field is visible at all times) but the P2W aspects are brutal.

If I were to get a gaming phone, it wouldn't be to make Auto Chess run at 120fps (it supports it, but it's not the kind of twitch game to gain from it), it'd be because the ROG Phone formula is for a battery-first, cameras-last flagship and that's the type of flagship I want.

Why not create an energy efficient version of the 865 instead of pushing the clocks higher. A power saving flagship soc is best for compact flagships.

[deleted post]So comparing the 480 to the 888 through a benchmark is useless? You can't trust the 2000 points gap between them?

                                      In between 865 and 888

Shady69, 19 Jan 2021the high refresh rate imo is the worst gimmick of them all,... moreHigh refresh rates are for gamers mainly. Although they have other benefits. But for gamers. Its almost essential. As most gamers who don't currently game at 4K options. Will most definatley use at a minimum. 90FPS. - What you clearly don't understand is the frame rate of games. That is critical. Also. With a gaming phone. Those extra animations combined with ultra low latency as well as high touch sampling rates... Usually means I have already appeared behind a pubg player. And it's game over for them. By the time there 120hz touch latency. Combined with a 60hz screen catches up... By which time. It's game over for them...

My gaming phone clearly enables be to actually and literally run circles round my opponents. Whilst there old tech helps them figure out what is going on... Which is always way too late. And has cost them the game.
