Wily2021, 23 Jan 2021There’s one reason why Android companies doesn’t give you l... moreThe real reason, why brands using android, not supporting devices is that they have much more devices in different price segments and if they supported all of them, it would take a lot of finances and it's not worth it. Apple releases only 3-4 devices each year, so it's a lot easier to support software, whereas other brands may produce up to 20 devices every year (e.g. Samsung, Xiaomi) and supporting each for more than 3 years is very hard (3 year x 20 devices = 60 devices to support)
On the other hand, does supporting more than 2-3 years is essential?
For most users, no, on Android systems new updates barely change anything in functionality, because it already has almost everything necessary. And the most important thing, most of the users change phones every 2 years (sometimes every year!), so no benefit for that long support for them

Loepoes, 23 Jan 2021Hey boy. What kind of phone do you want?
I like Android.
... moreActually mobiles working on android have huge variaty in terms of devices, and saying "I need android phone" is almost the same as saying "I want food, I want chocolate"... The sentence is too general. There are tons of brands, tons of devices in different price segments and if person has android, it doesn't instantly mean that it is cheap mobile. There are great phones at price of 600-800$ (which isn't budget), examples: OnePlus 8t Pro, Galaxy S20 FE, almost flawless devices in terms of specs.
And another thing about price point: it is not the problem that some Android are cheap, it's a problem that Apple doesn't produce cheaper devices and is usually overpriced

They don’t have ecosystem which makes money all the time, so Android companies are only losing if you keep your same phone for long time, that’s why they only offer you average 2 years, there’s nothing what Android adds which won’t run with your old Android phone. Over the time all this have lead to the fact that very few buy Android premium phones these days because they just isn’t worth it. And people want to keep their phones longer and longer every year, because there’s so few new things coming to phones. This is the reason why Samsung was forced to start offering atleast 3 years update because they knew from the sales that they are losing customers.

[deleted post]So next level it only gets you 2 years of updates, 3 at best and you always get left out just when there is some cool feature added, usually very much intentionally even though they promised X updates and then they make an U turn just then so they can shill new devices more. Seen that sooooo many times. Also it's useless without Google's junk baked in. Oooooooooh so next level. Your fanboyish brain is presenting Android like it's desktop OS compared to calculator capability that would be iOS. Where in reality Android and iOS are basically the same feature wise with certain more or less minor benefits and limitations on both sides. Quit selling your Android fanboish BS, no one is buying it.

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2021And what do you get with newer iOS updates? Number changes ... moreiOS updates were always very buggy especially upon launch. Definitely not the "stable" system. And the updates are pure comedy in terms of features and functionality. Outdated at best.

AnonD-973296, 22 Jan 2021i'm just gonna write out the pros and cons of both so ... moreThere is this notion that something is "open source" instantly makes it better. Reality is, most people loudest about open source never contribute to the code or review it themselves. They always expect others to do that. Preferably for free. That's the reality of it. Also look at how wonderful Linux is. It absolutely lacks standardization and it's the same fragmented mess as Android. And the further you go through the distros tree, the worse it gets.
Another fun thing is that Android as core is open source. But stuff you get on devices actually sold with Android, most of it is closed source by vendors and then more closed source stuff bolted on top by Google itself. And even if Google apps themselves are open source, systems running them behind the scenes are most certainly not.
Also a huge problem with Android is that it's VERY Google centered. For as long as their junk is installed, it'll be functional. As soon as you scrape it off the device, assuming there even is a ROM for it that's not some garage cooked garbage ROM that has zero support, the smartphone becomes much less smart and with severely limited functionality.
And lastly, apps on Google play are "free" for a reason. They are all packed with junk to the brim. App Store is not immune and most apps have Google's telemetry garbage inside as well, but it's much less of an issue on a larger scale.
People think I hate Android. That's nowhere near the truth. But I want it to get better so I could actually have an option. But given how things look, I'll most likely be forced to stick with iPhone and iOS and just accept stupidities like portless phones in the future. Because that's still of lesser evil compared to all the nonsense on Android phones. Or I may realize thats a bigger issue than I think of it now and I'll forcibly return to Android again just the way how I departed from it. I dumped EVERYTHING Google in my life and because of that it was natural to get rid of Android phone too because it's the worst Google's data hoarding vector.

I only have Apple mobile devices, but i’m still Windows pc guy and always been. Too bad WP just never reached the level that it would have made sense to really switch. Windows phone devices were just very mediocre. Competition was already way too high and also there was that huge app gap.

Holy cow Newsflash, we don't care what you think about iPhone. The iPhone seriously is living rent free in all your guys minds lol. Why do you guys care so much? I think Android has a younger crowd and that reflects the immature comments we see here . What is the point of bashing iPhone? Does it make you guys feel better? Or are you trying to convert us to android? It's sad and pathetic, YouTube comments just as bad .

If i wouldn’t be happy i wouldn’t have been iPhone user for last 10 years. Since i got my first iPhone really haven’t seen any real reason to switch to something else, Apple is doing so good job with their products and ecosystem. I’m graphic designer (hobby), photographer (hobby) and music producer and audio producer and Apple and their devices shine in all these areas.

AnonD-973296, 22 Jan 2021i'm just gonna write out the pros and cons of both so ... moregood list,
I would put this on the pros though, ”Not open source” i think for majority it’s actually good thing that iOS is closed, that’s why it’s so secure and can offer so unified experience and controlled experience. I know it’s not for everyone, but that’s exactly why we have Android as a choice offering completely wild land experience with everything possible.it just means everything is all over the place just like the stuff you listed in Android cons some of them are reason because of open source and that’s big part why i can’t think buying Android phone, there just isn’t any control.
Other is that when you want absolutely best Android phone from the market, you might be disappointed the fact that next month or in few months there’s better phone already which you would have wanted instead the one you bought. When i spend lot of money for iPhone i know i have best iPhone for next year and it just feels good because i spend so much money on it.
