New mid-range Dimensity 700 and 800 chipsets may use an older 10/12nm process

25 January 2021
According to a report, they will be unveiled in Q2. Current Dimensity 800 and 700-series chips are fabbed at 7nm.

      The truth is in MTr/mm2
The more MTr/mm2 (millions of transistors per square millimeter) you get, the thiner your process is (what the nm should be), the better efficiency you will get.

      Samsung's 8nm is close to TSMC's 10nm
      Samsung's 5nm is far from TSMC's 5nm

Qualcomm already used 8nm on SD750G, 690 and 480 and noboby critisized...Mediatek still use 7nm even on Dimensity 700

Samsung's 8nm is far from 7nm in transistors array, far more closer to 10nm
          10nm around 51-52 MTr/mm2
          8nm around 61 MTr/mm2
          7nm around 95MTr/mm2
          6nm around 116Mtr/mm2
          Samsung's 5nm 126MTr/mm2

Dimensity could have destroyed Snapdragon had they released more units.

I cant understand whats the big deal here ? These chips are in low end phones that nobody in here dont buy cause all are more for the top end linge flagships or just apple buyers. So why care about the 10-12nm anyways ? I dont much understand about the cpu but there are loads of phones in the market that even have only quad core and they are sold as new models in 2021. Example Nokia 1.4

If these 10/12nm chips get the cost down so much and still are powerful enough then i dont see any problem. Especially of the high percent of poor people all over the world who cant even buy 100 euro phone for them selves.

Why dont people complain about Snapdragon 4xx series as i dont think they have 2xx series anymore or even 3xx series. MTK just fills the market for each price category and takes money where it can. It's not like they stop evolving on smaller chips with there higher range. Dimensity 800U already have over 340k antutu v8 score that is enough to play any game without problems. It's basically like SD845 performance and you get phones with that under 200 euro

All 5nm lines being full because of apple and Qualcomm/Samsung production is normal to make a way to stay in the market. Now, if a production process is miniaturized this doesn't mean that is hugely better than a more simpler and tested old one

The good old make a product decent, then switch it to crap after the name has grown. Well played.

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2021you gotta be joking me 2021 with 10-12nm is caveman eraFor entry level devices & their users, transistor size do not matters.

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2021Why go backwards from 7 to 10 or 12? They might have to go back because the other processes are fully booked by other companies or even other MTK chips. Or maybe it's a matter of cheaper production.

Will never buy another phone with a mediatek chip again. 1st and last device with an MTK chip I bought was a painful experience.
