First Sony Xperia 1 III renders show a periscope camera, slimmer bezels

The design is otherwise unchanged - all flat sides and 90° angles. Sony will keep the 3.5 mm jack and microSD slot that we enjoyed on the Mark II.

    The difference is : Sony cam app chooses to use HDR when it feels necessary. While other phones are set to use all the time (because google was doing).

    If you turn on HDR, it is going to give you those blue skies when pointed against the sun, just like other phones do.

    Check link below. They compare the DRO x HDR. Look at the photos of the woman with hat on. Click on D Range, then on HDR and see difference.

    Also, mostly it is a matter of settings. Shutter 1/80s, 1/150s, 1/200s, 1/400s is not proper for cloudy days. To show the grays of clouds shutter needs to be faster like 1/1400s, 1/1800s or 1/2000s. People ignore this basic fact.

    People should stop using the term computational to talk about hdr.
    Cameras could do it way before nexus phones. Professionals rarely use because it messes with colours.

    Why do you think 10ii has night mode and 1ii does not?
    Because 10ii has just 1s shutter, 1ii has 30.

    A company that also make cameras is not going to give you photos that look like social media filter. If Canon and Nikon were making phones too, be sure both would act like Sony. I also doubt the low end phones Panasonic sells in India makes warm/punchy/saturated/instagramish photos.

    If Nokia was still making phones, be sure they would never give yellow faces, blue clouds, turn brown hair into black like some brands do. Nor turn scene into plastic.

Eventhough it will indeed bigger sensor than 1ii, 50mp downsample to 12mp will be great in daylight, but will be not up with the competition in low lights, given the small pixel size.

      I'll take my bet they will use Quad Bayer.

        Looks like Sony's got a winner on their hands for another generation. While everyone else is dropping what used to be standards features like the headphone jack and micro sd slot for no good reason, and chasing silly "bezel-free" trends by putting ugly holes and notches in the screen, Sony has been the only one offering a truly full-featured phone with flagship specs. As a side note, I also agree with the decision to stay away from under-display fingerprint readers. Having them somewhere you can feel makes getting your finger on the correct position on the first try much easier. I really hope this phone does well on the market so Sony can keep these trends going into the future.

          Samsung out here killing the power plug, QHD display and the headphone jack but Sony bringing back the true android power users to their rightful place. All in a smaller footprint with no ommisions! Kudos Sony. Will definitely be moving to the 1iii after the greedy power play Samsung is pulling with their phones.

            Man if they add a high refresh rate screen and hold up on their promise for 3 years+ of software support, this might be the perfect phone.

In QB, the data from 4 pixels are treated as a single input during the readout process, so if you shoot in binning mode (which is 12.5MP in this case) the readout speed is significantly faster than that of a regular 50MP Bayer sensor. One way to test this is to take a photo of a fast moving object in both binning mode and full resolution mode and see how much more rolling shutter effect the latter shows.
                Also, stop referring to that slide on Sony's Xperia 1 II presentation - they compared IMX557 to a Nonacell HM1 sensor that is also twice as large which didn't make much sense in the first place.

You will not see HDR by default and their HDR will not be as refined as let's say Apple's.

                            First quad bayer from Sony, a 50mp main camera. Periscope at x5 zoom. Those 50mp are needed to fill the FL between 1x - 5x image quality (Super Res algorithm), just like what Huawei did.

                            Maybe this is the first Xperia that getting serious onto computational photography. About time. Great Auto + Great Pro mod.

                              That's because under-display fingerprint sensors are slower and less accurate. They're also more expensive. There is literally nothing good about them.

                                That's why Sony could consider it. I know they don't like quad bayer but they may make the exception for the Ultrawide since no one will be doing quick burst shots on that lens.

                                  Leave photo pro on auto, photos are equal.
                                  Stock cam does not use HDR all the time like other brands set.

                                  Phone has 30s shutter, no need of night modes that turn night into day.

                                      EIS decreases quality too.
                                      Crop of 1.1x to improve stability, turns 3840x2160 into 3456 x 1944.

                                      Gimbal is better solution than electronic stabilization.

                                      Sony has zero interest in quadbayer. Their own words!!!
