Sony should take the Nokia approach. Put a bigger sensor specially developed for their phone. Should stop thinking about the device thickness. If someone buy their phone for the camera, thickness isn't a big factor. No software optimization can beat a great sensor and as Sony somehow can't bring the same level of software as pixel, they should approach differently.

Unless there is an internal video capture chip or HDCP 2.0 compliant pass-through built into the older Sony Xperia 1 ii, I am not sure that this new software will not have latency when feeding a video source into it.
The new Sony Xperia Pro is supposed to have HDCP compliant HDMI input capabilities, hence no latency
Feeding HDMI using adaptors into Android phones is not new, there are apps that does this, but they all have latency and crashes while using together with a HD or 4K capture device, like the Elgato Camlink 4K.

Despite being 10x better.
2020 is Apple is still stuck on FHD for a $1350 phone.
Even xiaomi has QHD.

The feature is listed in the settings of my Xperia 5ii after the android 11 update. Haven't had a chance to try it out as I don't have a cable, but it's there...

Xperia S also had an hdmi out port. If it was possible, then porting to Xperia s would be easier since it has already android.

It only supports USB Video Class, a HDMI to USB adapter won't work afaik. I tried a straight USB C cable from my RX 6800 XT's USB C port and it wasn't recognised.

This is why except Apple, Samsung and Huawei, all other were losing money with phones way before covid. Cheap phones gives marketshare, but little money.
In 2019, Samsung sold more A series than expected and less S/Note than expected.
Profits were down compared to 2018.
Why do you think brands like Leica, Apple, Prada and many other avoid selling cheap products?
