I guess you just have to hold on to your current device and get yourself a midrange smartphone in the future as well, or get a Huawei flagship.

        PeterThePanda, 12 Feb 2021Nope, if MicroSD cards are obsolete then why are new SD car... moreSpare me the technicality, but like I said, Micro SD in flagships are becoming obsolete. Good luck finding a flagship smartphone in the near future as well because according to this site there are only 26 flagship smartphones you can still get from last year.

            Anonymous, 11 Feb 2021MicroSD is becoming obsolete just like what happened to MiniSD.Nope, if MicroSD cards are obsolete then why are new SD card technologies with faster read and write speeds comparable to even NVME SSDs being developed?

            The only reason MicroSD cards are going away in smartphones is that OEMs took a page from Apple: why give users the ability to buy cheaper and larger expandable storage when you can earn more from them by charging them for subscription based cloud storage? It’s more profitable to charge them for cloud storage than to give them removable and expandable storage.

            Short answer: Greed, and profits.

              I'm in love with my S21 Plus...best phone i've ever had, huge screen, typing is amazing, the colours on videos are more vivid

                Dometalican, 11 Feb 2021And on a plane where wifi is bloody expensive?You can pre-download the files you will need before the flight. It's far from perfect but I'm just trying to point out solutions for the SD card removal. However, most people won't need to handle hundreds of gigabytes of data during their flight and you should understand if they remove a feature that only a fraction of the customers uses to its full capacity. Personally, I always used and loved SD cards but since I have the Note 9, I don't even have the card in it. I can never fill up those 512 GB. I'm sure in 2021 people are mentally able to choose the right storage size phone for themselves and if they do need terabytes of storage, they will simply choose a different model than the S21. PS.: a lot of airlines provide unlimited data, I know that Delta Airlines does since a flew with them a few times.

                  i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 11 Feb 2021Go hold one in your hand in the Samsung store and then tell... moreIs the S21 (151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9 mm) compact? So far ~90% of GSMArena readers say no, it’s too tall; and ~88% of GSMArena readers say no, it’s too wide:

                  https://m.gsmarena.com/weekly_poll_how_big_should_mini_phones_be-news-47588.php {
                  How tall should a mini (AKA compact) phone be:
                  34.33% (2712 votes) 130-135 mm
                  21.05% (1663 votes) 135-140 mm

                  4.19% (331 votes) 155-160 mm

                  How wide should a mini (AKA compact) phone be:

                  11.72% (1077 votes) 70-72 mm
                  }

                    People are still going cloud, cloud, OMG, cloud.
                    Even after Google ordered Photos storage to be removed from unlimited to just few limited images of just 3.15 Megapixels.

                    Wasn't that a lesson enough that nothing on cloud is yours?
                    Wasn't Celebrity pics leaking from Apple iCloud a fine example?

                    Don't ever compare something as $hitty and exposing as cloud, to a marvellous convenience like MicroSD card.
                    You may not use it, but that doesn't give you license to talk lies.

                      Anonymous, 11 Feb 2021I use 6.2 s8+ which is pretty large for me. How is s21 compact?Go hold one in your hand in the Samsung store and then tell me... it isn't compact.

                                      lottery248, 11 Feb 2021TLDR: microSD is not even dead, bottlenecked, or obsolete, ... moreJust face it, Micro SD is becoming obsolete in smartphones just what they did with the Mini SD, removable battery, and to the headphone jack - except entry and midrange. Good luck to you then finding a flagship device in the near future with that feature; unless settle with a midrange device.
