We're interested in built-in storage specifically, but would like to hear your thoughts on microSD slots and cloud storage as well.

128 gb is the sweetspot. Anything more is good if affordable but most midrangers don't have that option. So, 128gb is fine. But the microsd slot should be present.

I only have 16GB internal and that would be good enough if you could remove the bloatware.
There is in built obsolescence and that is because the software you like is getting bigger and you can not get rid of the bloatware.
An expansion is needed and a card slot is good.
It is replaceable , changeable and can be quite a size.
Most manufactures are just makeing electronic waste.
I suppose they have to sell phones so it is catch 22.

I wonder how many cellphones that have been made are still in use ?!

Autobiote, 14 Feb 2021No amount of storage is, in fact, enough for me. True, 256 GB is a sweetspot, the rest can go to a laptop.

                I'll put it this way:

256GB is plenty for my needs

512GB and up is overkill and I LOVE IT (lol)

That being said, card slot HAS to be present; whether it be hybrid dual sim or dedicated. It just has to be there. It's a great way to have more with the card of the capacity of your CHOICE without depending on cloud/internet to access my stuff (and without spending $2,000+ on a solid NAS.

128GB Internal+ Dedicated Standard MicroSD slot (non of that nano memory BS Huawei is doing) For me it's about having all my music with me on the go with "good" audio quality. Music steaming services, use too much data, have Ads or subcrtiption fees and don't have good enough audio quality(Spotify premium is 256Kbps quality) and i already own 99% of my music collection in digital format. it's also a god send when you change phone. you just take the SDcard out and put it in your other phone.

I dont mind not having a memory expansion slot, provided that the phone has at least 256-512GB rom. flagship phones with only 128gb rom is laughable in 2021

128-256GB + micro SD slot is perfect. I shoot in 4K with the phone's memory then I move to the SD card. In any case, I don't buy a smartphone without a micro SD slot, why I would go to Xperia this year, how much will the 1III and its characteristics cost against the competition. I tested the 1II and really liked the direction of Sony

Phones with a grand price tag should have a minimum 512GB of internal storage. Not because it is less, why settle for less, for that price u shouldnt worry of space, one thing they should bring back is headphone jack BTW.

MicroSD cards don't always work well with phones so a lot of data has to be kept on internal storage. (I know that from experience)

                                MicroSD? 128 gigs is enough.

                                No MicroSD? 256 gigs.

Manufacturers that remove SDcard slot and charge much much more for additional storage/RAM option should be ashamed. Sadly, Android no longer allows apps to be moved to external, which makes this situation worse. I can put up with minimal notch or punch-hole screen, but won't buy any phone without 3.5mm jack or SDcard slot. I had some flashdrives and harddrives failing after few years, but all my SDcards never dissappoint me. Even my 8gb full-sized SDcard from 2009 is still working fine.
Now I'm using an Android phone with 64gb internal storage + 128gb microSD, which is enough for me. If only Android still allows apps to be moved to external storage, then 32gb internal + 128gb microSD is enough.

128gb is probably enough for me. My phone is nearly full but I do have about 60gb of music that is rarely played.

Inside the phone?128-256GB is enough. No MicroSD?No problem,as long the phone supports OTG.256 GB USB Flash drive is much better/more practical solution,at least in my case.
