14 February 2021
We're interested in built-in storage specifically, but would like to hear your thoughts on microSD slots and cloud storage as well.

I was expecting high speed UHS-2 micro sd cards to be the next logical step for Android phones. So I have no idea why manufacturers would want to remove them considering the sd card slot is dirt cheap to add to a phone. I can only image it is to make more money on the higher storage variants. 1 min of 8k video takes up approx 600mb of storage, thats 6gb for 10 mins of 8k video! Can you image how long that would take to upload to google drive? It may well turn out that I go back to how things were at the beginning of the smart era with rubbish phone cameras, that is to carry a compact camera around with me.

128~256 is plenty for apps and games and will be for years. Need the memory card slot for the music library and manual backups. Can get around lack o jack but non expandable devices are dead on arrival for power users. If you have to factory reset the device for any issue, if the phone dies, etc. Plenty of reasons to have memory cards. Even if a small one for sensitive file personal backups.

128gb is enough unless you love videography or loves storing videos on your phone.

Hanif Fikri, 14 Feb 2021Its too risky storing my files without sd card. What if my ... moreExactly. There are times when the phone will have a mind of its own and we have to format the whole thing up. When there is something like a microSD card, at least we can store it there.

For phones with microSD card slot, the maximum internal storage of 128GB is more than enough for me. But for phones without microSD card slot, I won't be buying one without at least 256GB. I never like to store all my files on the cloud storage, so having something like the microSD card on the phone that can be easily accessible at the ready all the time especially when the cloud storage server goes down is super useful. I have been using the same Kingston microSD card for various phone for about five years now and never suffer from any kind of file corruption or malfunctioning whatsoever. I never give a d*mn about transfer speed as long as all the files are still accessible at the ready. Sure that there is USB OTG that can allow other USB-A peripherals, but I don't use that to store my files as I don't lug my external hard drive or my thumb drives around.

Having music files for more than 60GB for initial phone migration, I ended up filling my internal 128GB very quickly and thankfully the expansion of another 128GB helped my case as my music folders are still expanding its size! 😊

My opinion is that all the midrange mobile phones should start from Ram 3GB to 8GB & Rom 32GB to 256GB while the high end flagship mobile phones should start with Ram of 6GB to 8GB & Rom 128GB to 1TB that will be good.

                    64GB is enough for me.

Its too risky storing my files without sd card. What if my phone broke? sd will survive...

128GB if the phone has microsd slot. If not, 256GB is needed for me. Not everyone uses music streaming service or cloud storage you know.

To my needs, combo 32GB storage + sd card + 3GB ram is enough.

sdcard slot is a must today, with phones getting better cameras and higher resolution its no problem fill up 128gb internal storage wiht photos video, apps music etc.. and then what? if no memory card option u are so fked.....

I don't mind getting rid of the headphone jack and the micro SD card slot so long as they add another USB C port for ease of use. The reasoning is that it's more universal.

MicroSD card slot is a must. I take a lot of photos and listen to a lot of music that I store on my phone (not a streamer). Base storage of my phone is 64gb expanded with a 128gb microSD card.

Some genius ppl fill sd card too much bloatware and later complain about phone hanging and slow 🤣🤣🤣

I'd consider myself a reasonably 'heavy' phone user, take a lot of photos, big Spotify library downloaded, occasional offline YouTube videos, loads of rubbish from WhatsApp groups, etc, but in the nearly 2 years I've had my OnePlus 6T with it's supposedly poultry (by today's standards) 128gb, I've not come close to filling it

I never had a phone with more than 64gb of internal storage. But I always had microsd cards.
I have an ipad with 32gb and is still enough for me. With all these subscriptions (music, movies) and cloud storages nowadays, I don’t see the reason to have 1tb storage or something. I rather have an external drive, than to pay more money for higher storage capacity phone model.
